Yesterday, I visited a new friend of mine (whom I met at gym and who is a health freak) and her tea was so good, I immediately asked her what she put into it. She smiled and said fenugreek seeds  Just a pinch, yes, but still.....

So I thought, may be everyone has some unique ingredients to bring flavor to their morning tea. I like to add ginger, the obvious choice. Sometimes cardamom powder goes in, but thats it.

What do you add to make your tea special? Or even coffee? :coffee :)

EDIT: I started this thread impulsively. And suddenly there were so many posts about making a tea rich. Adding links to new and old useful threads here.

My recipe, stolen and slightly adapted from my exMIL's recipe. Per serving:

    one black tea bag
one part water to two parts whole or 2% milk (it just doesn't taste right with fat free milk)
    4-5 opened green cardamom pods,
1-2 broken up cinnamon or cassia sticks
1/4 inch-ish slice of peeled fresh ginger
    6-7 whole cloves
a few strands of saffron, ground up (sometimes. That stuff is too expensive to use in tea all the time.)
    dash of vanilla
Sugar to taste (sometimes I want it more sweet, sometimes less)

If I'm not going to be cooking my morning tea (because that above recipe requires 20 minutes of babysitting on the stove, so as not to scorch the milk), then I usually just plunk a bag of Twining's Irish Breakfast Tea in a mug of hot water, steep it, and add a cube or two of sugar and a splash of milk.

More often than not, though, my morning drink is orange juice. Tea used to be daily, but now it might be once or twice a week...

It is pretty rich. ExMIL makes it every morning. I just don't know how she can tolerate it every single day; I make it once a week, more often when it's cold.

I add any of this according to my mood , a pinch of pepper powder ( if my nose is running), a piece of ginger (if stomach is upset ) , cardamom powder or cinamom powder. In black tea you can and either mint leaves , lemon or basil leaves ( healthy choice)
