Hey Ilites, I remember an old advertisement I saw on TV which shows the Sun using a straw to drink the energy from a little boy's head. That is such an apt depiction of summer in my opinion. Every call I make back home these days have the same complaint of how hot it is in India and I keep suggesting them to have lots of fluids like buttermilk, lime juice etc to stay well hydrated. I would love to know of the special recipes the INDUSLADIES follow at their homes to beat the blazing heat. Let us share the typical summery ways of cooking we adopt to keep our body cool. Aah! Thanks for reminding me. When I was working in Chennai, Nannari sharbat was introduced during summers and people went crazy for it. Even Kulfi was a great respite.
Yea freespirit20, we started having it just coz it was a body coolant. But now loving it for its great taste. Sometimes we do add palm candy in it . So yummm
Lemonade, coconut water, aam ka panna, lassi, kokum sharbat.....we make sure to add at least one of these in our beat the heat list!
I started to take fenugreek seeds in empty stomach because of body heat. It cools our body. Lemon rice, Tender coconut water, buttermilk, watermelon also helps to beat summer.
soak moong dhal overnight n in empty stomach drink its water n eat the dhal.. it keeps our body cool..
Leftover rice soaked overnight in water with some salt and leave it on the countertop itself, don't refrigerate. Next morning crush the rice nicely, add some curd/buttermilk, mix nicely and drink. This is the best coolant :thumbsupfor the body - you can feel the chillness down your throat, so delicious it would be. You can also have with some chopped small onion in the side.
