is it ok to drink water before gtt(glucose tolerance test)

hi all
i am 26 weeks now. last week i had my gtt test. i drank half a glass of luke warm water efore going for the test, and the previous nite ,i drank water 2 times ,whenever i got up from sleep,
will it affect my test results?
can anyone help me?

Hi,
When I went for this test, I did not have anything. GTT is done on empty stomach. I guess no water too. Anyways, confirm with your Doc.

are you sure it was a glucose tolerance test and not a glucose challenge test.

if it was the former then you should be fasting for atleast 8 hrs before the test , and for the latter you can eat an hour before the test .
drinking water may not cause major difference in the test results .

hi sept..
mine was a glucose tolerance test
and since it is very hot these days without having a bit of water i dont feel like going out.and i drank water, the result says i have sugar
doctor has asked me to see the dietician

sorry to know that you have GD .... is it confirmed ?
my gct was done around the same time ...
if gct comes abnormal , they ask for a gtt .
what was the procedure followed for a gtt ?

hi sept.
the procedure for gtt is as followed,time required is 3 hr ,
u have to fast for 10-12 hrs(night), next morning give blood and urine, then they will give u a glucos drink(75ml), drink that within ten minutes ,u can have water if u feel like, and wait for one hr, give blood and urine, again wait for another one hour,drink water in between, no food, and give blood n urine.
i am not sure if u can have water before the first sample.., and since it is very hot, i din feel like going out without having water, dont know if it would change the results..any how dr dint give any medicines and all, asked to control diet,
i am leaving for india within two weeks , i want to do the test once again,
for the time being i am controlling my diet

thank you for the explanation .
so , blood was collected twice ...
mine was a gct and blood sample was collected once , after an hour of drinking 50 ml glucose .

take well controlled diet ... if your blood doesnt show increased glucose next time .. then you may not have to take any medication .
