• If you are made to wait for longer than anticipated, enquire politely about the reason of the delay, and convey that you do not have all day. Even though you are the interviewee, your time needs to be respected.
  • Always make an effort to remember the name of the HR official who coordinated the interview for you. Everyone likes to be acknowledged as a person, and not only as an entity.
  • If you have got the opportunity through a friend who works in the same company, now is not the time to exhibit the love and closeness you two share. Meet your friend formally at the office, if you do.
  • Reach on time. Not ‘just on time’, but a good 15 minutes ahead of time. Gives you time to catch your breath, use the rest room if need be, and appear calm and well in control. Just goes to show that you value their time as much as yours. In case, you are going to be late because of any issues not under your control, like unexpected traffic jams, or VIP movements, call and inform the coordinating official.

According to Nupur Dwivedi, Deputy Director, Human Resource in a leading social work organization, there are two parts of any interview; content and behaviour. Every candidate should prepare themselves thoroughly by studying the value system of the company, because the panel is not just looking at what a candidate says, but also how she says it.

Next section, we shall talk of what you can expect in an interview. What questions can be asked of you and what you can do to prepare yourself.
