What are your hobbies? Do get enough time for your hobbies?

I love reading books on Yoga, health, watch TV and listen to music.

What is the demand for Yoga instructors in general?

The demand is huge for Yoga instructors, both as personal and corporate trainers. But teaching yoga without having a good rapport with the people and not having a passion for Yoga may not be fruitful in the long run. Yoga is holistic and must not be learned just to lose weight or tackle specific health issues.

As an instructor beginning on her career, what is the pay that one can expect?

If you are a personal trainer, the pay is good, but the responsibility is a lot more. When I was working in an institute, I was paid quite decently. People pay per session and pay depending on the caliber of the trainer. As a beginner, it is important to prove yourself and gain people’s confidence.

How does one start yoga training as a beginner?

I started with word of mouth publicity. I called people and showed them my certificates, and took few sessions with them. You must be quite sure of what you are teaching, and only then people will trust you.

Do you have anything to tell our IndusLadies members in particular?

Please do not teach Yoga with to make money only. It is important to derive mental satisfaction and achieve good work-life balance. Teach Yoga with a motto of serving people. Money will come to you once you have gained people’s confidence through your competence and technique. You must enjoy what you are doing. I derive immense joy and mental satisfaction by doing Yoga. In fact, I wait to teach Yoga every day and prepare myself on how to make the class more enjoyable. Passion is the key.

Mrs Geetha Unni, here’s wishing you all the luck and success for a bright future ahead.
