Shashi Sumeet Production (also known as Two’s Company) is an Indian television production house and it produces television shows for various channels like Starplus, Colors TV, Zee TV, Imagine TV and Life OK etc. As part of our series on women in business, our writer, Nancy Katyal, gets to talk to the co-founder of Shashi Sumeet Production, Shashi Mittal, a mom, a wife and a businesswoman.

Please tell us about how your production house, Shashi Sumeet Productions, took shape.

I, along with my husband, made our identity first as writers, with lot of good Hindi television shows like Sinndoor, Woh Rehnewali Mehlo Ki, Betiyan, etc. Star Plus liked our new concept and gave us an opportunity to produce it and Shashi Sumeet Productions came up with their first show ‘Sajan Ghar Jana Hai’.

How did you get interested in production?

Producing a show is natural progression, as many people have done it before us. Producing a show as per your conviction gives you creative freedom, and also gives you an understanding of the limitations which can’t be ignored.

What do you like about being an entrepreneur?

I enjoy my work as a writer, which I have been doing since a long time now with full passion. And that gives me supreme satisfaction.

What have been the most difficult moments for you, while managing your production house?

The difficult moment is yet to come (she laughs). In daily soaps you always face some problem or the other, and by God’s grace, it also gets solved. Every day we have to manage a team of around 300 to 400 people, working day and night for us, and that in itself is a challenging task.

What do you like to do in your leisure time?

I like listening to music, watching movies, sleeping and spending quality time with my daughters in my leisure time. I am not much of a party animal, so I usually spend my free time at home.
