What differentiates information you share with new mothers from the plethora of information available to young expectant mothers online?

As an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant I provide evidence based clinical breastfeeding management.

This involves clinical assessment for breastfeeding challenges, which may involve medical conditions for both mother and baby. This requires specialized skills to help facilitate breastfeeding along with counselling support.

Additionally I also offer holistic care which involves assessment and referral for integrated care to various other supportive cares, such as Chiropractics, Lymph Massage, Craino Sacral work, Oestopathy, Oral Surgery, and Homeopathy.

What are the top concerns of new and expectant mothers according to you?

The top concerns which are essentially common among new and expectant mothers according to me are milk supply issues which is often masked; painful and sore nipples; breast conditions including engorgement, mastitis, plugged ducts and abscess; and sleepy baby.

How long did it take to establish the site and business?

It’s been five years since I got on road into the world of lactation. The subject is quite deep, I continue to learn every single day, as I work with moms and babies, and new challenges lead you into new treasure of knowledge. The job I do is really heart-paying, than pocket filling. The satisfaction I derive from a happy mother and baby nursing is tremendous high for me, and gives me motivation to keep working harder.

What are the most important points which a new mother should keep in mind?

The most important point to remember for mothers is to begin to understand the importance of lactation through an in-depth prenatal counselling, covering the basics of breastfeeding and essentials of great start, and to draw out a breastfeeding birth plan recognizing the effects of birthing choices on breastfeeding. Among others are ensuring a certified baby friendly hospital for delivery, for implementation of early feeding practices, and asking for lactation expert help post birth. Therefore, it will help when mothers are aware of preventive and early lactation problems.

What advice would you give to women who may feel that lactation consulting is a great business idea?

India and the world need more women who have the passion to make a difference in another mother’s life. We have a huge goal to achieve to safeguard nature’s protection for both mother and baby. This career is for women who see them wanting to derive more out of job satisfaction and success will follow suit.

In the near future, do you hope to start training aspiring consultants too?

I do hope to mentor aspiring consultants sometime later, since apprenticeship and clinical practice sessions are integral part of study the board certification.
