What according to you are the top 5 important factors when it comes to running a boutique?

According to me, these will be:

  1. Making sure that you keep up with the trends;
  2. Pricing of each outfit, every client is price sensitive no matter how rich they may be;
  3. Understanding your clientele;
  4. Marketing and Advertising; and
  5. Location.

What are your immediate future plans for RE? Do you plan to open any branch soon?

As of now we have no plans to open another branch. The plan is to keep it going as is, and make sure that the quality and designs of the clothes keep getting better. RE is at quite a prime location in Mumbai anyway, thanks to my grandfather. This works for us.

Mumbai has its fair share of boutiques and high end stores. As a boutique owner, how do you face the various competitions in the clothing retail market?

To begin with, RE has an affordable range, and a variety of western and Indian outfits.  I have always wanted anyone who steps into my boutique to not only like the outfits, but also be able to afford it, and recommend the store to others. Gone are the days when fashion meant expensive. In today’s time, we can easily be stylish and fashionable without splurging all the time.

What do you think your customers primarily look for when they choose outfits?

I think they mostly look for clothes that compliment their body structure, and personal style. Price is also an important determinant. To sum it up, everyone is looking for a good looking outfit within one’s budget.

Can you share some advice with our readers on IndusLadies with reference to running or opening a boutique?

You must sell only those outfits that you love, things that you would wear. This will help you sell with conviction. Also, always be honest about what would really suit the customer. They will definitely return to buy more, if they get loads of compliments after wearing your products.

Thank you Kavita, and Indusladies wish you all the success in your future ventures.
