• Maintaining Business and Personal Relationships:

It takes years to build a reputation, but few minutes to ruin it. A good sense of etiquette is very important, be it in business or in personal relationships.

  • International Calling:

To advance in today’s world, it is very important that we are aware, and sensitive towards the norms and cultures of other international societies.

What All Constitutes Etiquette

1. Image etiquette- Visual (the way you present yourself)
2. Business etiquette (the way you conduct yourself at work)
3. Social etiquette (the way you conduct with others in a community)

Visual Etiquette

This is the most powerful, as people make quick first impressions about us based on our clothes, grooming and body language. First impression is often the last impression.

It is said you never get a second chance to create a first impression. Just pause for a moment and reflect how often we criticize others for not behaving or dressing properly as per social norms. Similarly people do it with us too. You believe it or not but we are constantly being judged by others on the way we dress, act and behave, at times even before we get a chance to speak.

Dress Your Part

Before you step out of your house, do ensure that the attire is properly ironed, is spotless, threads are not hanging out, it’s not too tight, the neckline is not too deep, accessories are not too bold, shoes are not worn out etc.

The entire attire should match your roles and goals. Always project a professional image at work. If you are banker dress and look like one. Casual dressing at work sends a wrong signal about you.

Grooming

The better groomed you are, the more sophisticated you look. It is very important to ensure cleanliness. Bad breath, body odor, unkempt hair, dirty nails and hands, loud make up are a big put off.

Body Language

It is the non-verbal communication through gestures, facial expressions, body posture etc. For example a frown in your face, absence of an eye contact, tapping fingers on table while having a conversation, etc, signals others that you are not interested in listening to them. Always keep a genuine smile, an eye contact and good body posture while interacting with others.
