Can you please describe a typical day at work?

My typical day starts in the morning, with my Zumba or aerobic class timings. The session is one hour in duration, wherein my trainees workout either with Steo aerobics or Zumba. At 11am, I have usually a personal training session with my client at her residence, or a gym, for an hour and half. In the evening, I usually have a one hour personal training session with a client at her residence.

Is there any specific qualification or training required to be a fitness expert or personal trainer?

Yes, to become a personal trainer one has to take a course in personal training, from a reputed institute in India or abroad.

What according to you would be some preparations one has to make to be a personal trainer?

To become a personal trainer one has to have an in-depth knowledge of the human body, understand perfectly the client’s requirements and his/her weak areas in the body that need special attention. There are also other aspects like knowing the basic CPR certification, a warm and friendly attitude. and being current with the latest happenings in the fitness industry, which are extremely important.

As a fitness expert what according to you are some of the must-dos for a woman?

Some of the must-dos for a woman are to make some ‘me’ time for herself in a day. It can be a morning or evening walk or join a group exercise class like Yoga or Aerobics. Learn to do some easy stretches, which keeps the body’s flexibility intact. Eat a healthy diet including lots of green leafy vegetables and fruits. Make sure that you rest for at least 20 to 30 minutes during day time.

What according to you is an ideal health programme?

With so many health programmes to choose from, one is often confused as to what is right or wrong. Dieting alone will not help in reducing weight, it has to be a combination of both exercise and diet. If both these things are done under the guidance of a certified fitness instructor, the journey towards weight loss and a healthy lifestyle becomes much easier.

Where do you see yourself five years from now?

In five years from now, I wish to open my own studio or a chain of gyms, dedicated  to total body fitness, which will keep both the mind and body fit and healthy.
