question Hello,

I’m in my fifth week of pregnancy. I have heard that consumption of folic acid is very important for the baby.

Other than the tablet that my doctor has prescribed for me, I have also been having different vegetables and fruits.

And what is the exact dosage of folic acid to be consumed?

Once you know that you are pregnant, the consumption of folic acid beomes important. Folic acid is reuired for a number of reasons:

Defects

It will reduce the chance of neural tube defects in your baby. The defects are that of the spinal cord and brain.

RBC Build Up

Folic acid will also help your baby to build red blood cells and thus prevent anemia.

DNA

It also helps in the functioning and also in the repair of DNA. So the right dosage of it is necessary.
