Many would-be mothers nowadays are opting for a c-section over the normal vaginal delivery. Reasons are many. The most popular of them are not having to go through the pains of a normal birth and also having the option to choose a specific birth date and birth time for the child.
This said, the normal birthing process still remains a better option. Here are the reasons.
A normal birth is still considered to be a safer and healthier option for the baby. For example: babies born normally are said to have lower respiratory illnesses, like Transient Tachypnea of the Neonate or TNN. This is because the contractions during the birthing process squeeze out extra fluid from lungs of the child. Also the labour contractions release epinephrine, a hormone which clears out the fluid from the lungs as well. This helps the baby to breathe better.
Low Risk of Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension (PPHN)
Children born through vaginal birth are at a lower risk of developing persistent pulmonary hypertension. This is a condition in which the newborn’s organs get deprived of oxygen as enough blood does not flow into their lungs.
Less Allergic Reactions
Normal delivery prevents infants from developing various kinds of food allergies, asthma, etc because of the beneficial bacteria that they get exposed to, while passing through the birth canal.
Childhood Temper Tantrums
Some research has shown that if babies are born through elective caesarean, they are usually more temperamental. This is because a baby decides when it is time for her to be born. So forcing her to come in a time not chosen by her usually renders her more short tempered.
