Back to Pregnancy Week by Week Guide

13 weeks of pregnancy is over. Now you can relax a bit because your body would have internally adjusted to most of the changes happening. Use our Short Guide to Managing Pregnancy for knowing what more you can expect in the coming weeks.

Changes in Your Body at Week 14 Pregnancy

At 14 weeks of pregnancy, as the baby grows you will tend to feel more hungry throughout the day. But be careful with what you eat. A sudden weight gain is not desirable. So continue with your healthy balanced diet.

Your Baby’s Development at Week 14 Pregnancy

At 14 weeks of pregnancy, the baby’s eyes and ears continue to shift to their correct positions.

The neck grows a little longer and the chin lifts up from the chest.

The baby is now drawing all its nutrients from the mother via the placenta.

During an ultrasound you are most likely to see the baby opening and clenching its fists. The baby can also make facial expressions like frowning and also suck its thumb.

Two milestones that the baby achieves this week are:

  • The liver begins to produce bile
  • The spleen begins to produce red blood cells

Week 14 Pregnancy Tips and Advice

Your mood swings will increase as you move from the 14th to the 15th week of pregnancy. This is absolutely normal. So do find a support group where you can vent out all your frustrations.

While the placenta filters out the nutrients that reach the baby, there are some substances like alcohol and nicotine that it can’t. So stay off consuming any such substance.

Also watch what food you are eating. Stay away from soft cheese, sushi, unpasteurised milk, shellfish, products made with raw eggs (like mayonnaise) and any form of raw meat.

If you are working, then learn more about your maternity rights and discuss the same with your employer.

Week 14 Fun

Decide where you want to give birth. Find out if prior bookings are required and book yourself a room too in that case.

Start searching for various childcare arrangements available (nannies, crèche etc).

Plan the naming ceremony, make the guests list and shop for thank you gifts in advance,
