Write a Diary

Write down something interesting that happened each day. Trust me, each day, as a first time mother; you are bound to discover something new. It will not only help you to de-stress by venting out your emotions but you can have a nice laugh over it too later on.

Don’t be Alone

Make sure you get some adult conversation each day. If you wish, join a ‘new mothers group’ etc.. Have elders in the house, with whom you can speak to. Don’t forget to communicate with your spouse, no matter how busy the child keeps you.

Nutritious Diet

Eat well, healthy and at regular intervals and drink a lot of water and fresh juice too. Make sure you have included Omega 3, and enough vitamins in your diet. Don’t let your busy schedule make you miss out on your meals. Also keep your caffeine, alcohol and cigarette (including passive smoking) in check.

Exercise

Exercising – be that even a walk for half an hour a day – helps to reduce the depression. Try and get some fresh air to de-stress and let your body soak in some vitamin D as you walk in the sun.

Consult a Doctor

If none of the above work and you feel that the situation is going out of hand then don’t feel embarrassed to consult the doctor. The severity of postpartum depression can be avoided if treated at the right time.
