Tradition and Holidays:

If the holidays are during a festival, I also try to involve the kids in the festival preparation. Let the kids do the rangoli and the decorations. Yes, they may not look good but isn’t it nicer to have them involved and happy, than have perfectly manicured decorations. Normally, for all my festivals, I let the kids do the flower thorans (strings on the thresholds), the rangolis, their colour stained faces, and their pride about the designs they created, is time well spent.

Cook and Bake Sessions Together:

Again, you do not need heavy duty baking equipment or skill to bake cakes and cookies especially with kids.  There are a lot of instant mixes available in the market. In fact, except for turning on the oven and supervising the hot areas, everything can be done by the kids themselves. This is a good way to teach them attention to detail and to clean up after their work.

So, there you go. With the holidays around the corner, I hope these ideas can be of some help. Do send me your ideas as well so I can increase my list. There really, is never enough to do with kids who have never ending energy.
