Caffeine

You should avoid caffeine products for babies in any case, irrespective of cold attacks. They tend to cause dehydration, so that means avoiding teas in large amounts, coffee, cocoa products and fizzy drinks, both for the nursing mother, and for the growing child.

Foods to Help Recover from Illness

There are some foods you can give to your babies. Pureed moong dal khichdi is a good option. You can also feed your children warm vegetable soups, ginger tea, clear chicken soup (if your baby is older than one year) and broths. These are soothing to the throat, and help melt away the mucus which causes congestion. Diluted fresh juices and coconut water are also good sources of hydration.
