Dementia – Scale And Social Impact

Although ideally it is best to provide care for the afflicted at home, our rapidly changing social structure is making it increasingly difficult.  Where we earlier had joint families to provide care to the elderly, the nuclear family is pretty inadequate to handle such problems and puts tremendous pressure on the caregivers.  As of now families are the main carers.  We need more specialized homes and trained nurses to cater to the needs of such persons.
