Yoga Breathing/Pranayama:

Yoga has always been associated with effective breathing and increasing lung resistance in the body. Pranayama which means life force control teaches you proper breathing techniques to improve lung functions and also to decrease erratic breathing.

The techniques when practiced regularly balance oxygen and carbon dioxide levels, induce relaxation and also clears the energy channels of the body. It strengthens abdomen and diaphragm control and increases capacity of lungs. Effective breathing induced by Pranayama can cure a lot of diseases like asthma, allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, stress disorders, blood pressure etc.

Pranayama exercise focuses on four part breathing cycle of inhalation, retention, exhalation and retention of air. The various exercises like kapalabhati, anulom-vilom, ujjayi, etc, help to focus on unconscious breathing cycle, and making it a conscious act.

When practicing Pranayama, asthma patients should take note of the following things.
