Advice needed - Pls help

Hi all,
I'm a civil engineering degree holder with masters in remote sensing. I was into teaching field for 4 yrs. After june 2007 i quit my job, got married and came to california. My husband insists that i should take up QA with DBA. I just have the basic knowledge of few softwares with no hands on experience in any projects. What are the skill sets required for QA DBA. I'm in my H4 visa. We dont have our GCE also. Would i get any volunteer jobs as a entry level canidate in Los angeles. Pls do help me. I'm really confused on what to do.

QA means Quality Assurance and DBA - Data base adminstator both are two different roles you cannot perform both.

QA - Quality assurance will be the adherance to all the stardard check which may be performing Audit on the project deliverables to check if they adhere to all industry standard such as CMM Level, ISO,six sigma all this process of which will differ from company to company.

If you have misunderstood QA with testing because many people do so.If you have also misunderstood to start up Testing will be a very very good choice.There are all cources conducted which you can attend to have an idea of it and since if you have a GC getting a job will not be a problem .
In ur resume indicate that you are fresher and start your job search .

Dont put any fake experience so that there will be lots of expection from the company.

QA is one easy door to get into software industry. See if you can find any QA classes being offered in your area. There will be consulting companies willing to offer some training and job opportunities. IF you husband is the same field, he should know some already.

I would advise Testing as a very good choice.It would be really great if you do some short term course in Testing and then you can apply for entry level jobs.

I second the thought that the other ladies have proposed. YOu can enter into testing as you do not have much exposure to the software languages yet.

Am wondering as you are in H4 visa, you wont be able to work until you get your EAD in GC.

Ladies, am i correct ?

Sorry for catching up so late. Definitely i confused QA with testing in the initial stages. Allthese times i made an analysis of what i could fit into and ended up with Testing. There's an institute called INTEGRAL in LA which offers Testing courses and i'm planning to join there. Thanks for all of you to have put in your valuable time to have guided me. Thank you so much.
