Hi ILites, I am starting this thread which will contain the experiences ideas of different places where people from India or other parts of world would like to visit in West Bengal... There are many people who live outside Bengal ,irrespective they may or may not be bengalis and fond of visiting different places out in West Bengal.West Bengal has a wide range of places to visit starting from plain land to forest conservatories to hill stations, its like a mixed bag of everything. There are even many historic places out in Bengal like Bankura ,Bishnupur and the famous place called Shantiniketan(I hope everybody knows why is it famous).IF somebody doesnt know ,,lets keep it as a question to you all.The hill stations in the north are the main tourist attraction during the summer holidays like Darjeeling ,Mirik.I visited the place four times and still feel interested in visiting that place again. The Sunderbans as all of us know are famous for the Royal Bengal tigers.I went to Sunderbans but could not have a glimpse of the Tiger Uncle....Alas!! There is small seaside place called Digha and it is very much famous among the bengali youngstars. But the heart of West Bengal is Kolkata.(I miss Kolkata so much). Please share all your experiences of visiting the different places in West Bengal and somebody needs some help you can ask I will be trying to help you as much as I can. Waiting to hear more from you... Nabanita Last edited by nabanitapain : 15th May 2008 at 03:29 PM.

Hi Ramya, I am glad that you liked Kolkata.Kolkata is indeed a place where you will find the best and worst favourites of yours .Being a Kolkatain,I wont praise my city as really the buses and the maintenance of the city is horrible, but still I love Kolkata and love it also.Darjeeling is a very beautiful places but now there has been a issue ,the Gorkhas wanted to separate the Darjeeling may be from West Bengal and they wanted to make a separate Gorkha Land and we dont know whether there is any problems in future for the tourist to visit that place. Have you had a ride on the Toy Train of Darjeeling that takes you from Darjeeling to Ghoom ,which is said to be the highest altitude in the Darjeeling district. The Toy Train is a attraction of the tourist. Morover people also visit Sikkim from West Bengal a lot.I have been to Sikkim for my honeymoon..That is a great place of interest. The Tsangpo Lake is there and I first saw the first snow in my life at Tsangpo Lake. In those hill stations the dumpling or called Momos are very common.I ate a lot.I loved it also

Hi That sunrise spot is called the "Tiger Hill". It is really such.Even I used to think the way you did. But it is a indeed very steep hill to go there and the time with the sunrise and the hot tea or coffee from the "Chaye Walas" were really awesome.Miss those golden days. Have you ever been to Mirik that is very near from Darjeeling.I visited there with my husband for my honeymoon for one day. And there are lot more places to go out from Darjeeling .IF somebody is really interested in Trecking ,they can treck to Sandakphu, the highest peak of West bengal. There is Kalimpong,Kurseong,Lava,Lolegaon.

Hey Friends, I also visited the Sunrise Point in Darjeeling called Tiger Hill. The sunrise is like speechless. The rising of sun behind the mountain ranges are very picturesque. Everybody should visit Darjeeling once in a lifetime atleast.

Hi I would like to add that apart from the Hill Stations in West Bengal you can also visit the Bankura.Bishnupura which contains the ancient history of the Pala and the Senas to some extent. There are seaside like Digha which in towards the Midnapur district. There is Shantiniketan, the place well known for the two great Bengali Nobel Laureate Kabiguru Rabindranth Tagore and Economist Amartha Sen. Shantiniketan is called the "Punna Bhoomi" in West Bengal. Apart from that you can have a tour of the Sunderbans and if you get lucky enough you can catch a glimpse of the Royal bengal Tiger there. With Sundarbans there are many mythological stories related which the guides would narrate once they take you on vessel and go on within the creeks of Sunderbans. More to hear from you.
