How many credit cards.......Poll for 19th Nov. to 25th Nov. 2006

Here in India, most of the banking services offer credit cards without annual membership fee, sometime lifetime free membership.
So is there a catch in those services, am not sure. But there is a debate going on here about whether to opt for those credit cards. As long as you pay the dues in time there does not seem to be any problem. For any overdues there seem to be a harrassment on the customers. It is better to have only a manageable number of credit cards so that you could track down for any discrepancies.

Credit cards are surely a boon now. We need not carry heavy cash when travelling and now booking tickets thro cards are very easy.
But they prove a burden for people who do not plan their finances. My cousing used his cards in a very bad manner and acquired a huge sum as debt. He being in the lower economic strata, his parents had to sell their land to pay up. But still he continues to do that.
Another thing is, there are so many people who earn well but they do not have a registered profession - like the Purohits. They are not issued credit cards by the banks. But if a person gives a even a false certificate saying that he is the Manager of a small firm, he gets a card (and ends up a broke financially).
There is also the problem of the banks sending thugs to collect the debt, who misbehave and sometimes manhandle the card holder.
