Default What is the age difference ... - Poll for 17th July to 23rd July, 2005

Hello All,

This time we thought we will poll about the couples - it's couple time

Cast your votes to tell us what is the age difference between you and your life partner? Do you think it matters in the relationship? If yes, how does it matter?
Did you know these facts related to this poll???

- Lord Rama was younger than Sita Devi
- Mahatma Gandhi's wife Kasturba was older than him
- Among today's popular persons, Sachin is younger to his wife

Now, think more about it? Does age difference between couples matter in the relationship? Share your views...

My husband is elder to me by 4 years. So far we find things good and the age difference has not mattered much. May be it matters as we get more older!

Talking Just a year difference!

The age difference between us is just a year. It helps to an extent because anything we want to deal with we think in almost the same lines. Hence not much of opinion differences!

Post I was treated more like a kid!

Hi,

My husband is 8 years elder to me. During the initial months of our marriage, when I argue on certain things I was treated more like a kid being younger by few years! But I should say it slowly became fine once we had our kids!

Smile Age difference poll

Hello,

Nice to view the different views of different people.

The success between the couple is not really based on

age difference, I think. It is really based on couples`

attitude, adjustability, empathy and compassion.

I know many couples with huge age difference, they live

happily without any problems. Ofcourse, at earlier years

there might be a problem.

Like Induslady told, Mahatma Gandhi is younger than his

wife Kasturiba. In earlier years of their marriage, they weren`t

perfect couple. Now we give them as an example of ideal couple.

But nowadays both are working, if the age difference is less

the problems would be less. Couple can understand each other

to a great extent.

Regards,

D.VIDHYALAKSHMI

Default Where did the norm come from?

Great feedback Vidhya. Agree that age is a very poor predictor of marital satisfaction.

On a separate thought..it would be interesting to understand where did the norm - husband should be 2+ years elder to wife - came from?

Is it one of those old practices to ensure that husband is always one-up than the wife?

Or

Is it one of those brilliant ideas where our forefathers were ahead of science? Heard rumours that science indicates that there is 2-year maturity gap between male and female brains!

Thumbs up Your interests matters!

In my opinion the age difference matters less as long as the interests of the couples are similar. It need not be the same, atleast in the same wavelength would help!

On the lighter side, I don't mean to offend anyone here...
I have heard that many men think only half their age. While women think double their age. So women tend to be mentally very matured for their age and hence those days they used to marry them to men with huge age difference

Default Lesser the difference the better!

In my opinion too, lesser the age difference the better. It helps in better understanding.
