Hi Mals,

Nice to read so many replies.

For me, since i come from a very Ortho family, i was never allowed to wear jeans during my college days,i used to long for those jeans and sleevless tops or halter necks . My parents would ask me to wear Chudidhars or salwar kameez to college and Sarees only in case of any Occassion. But then i was very particular abt my dresses, design and its colours . so i used to give spl care abt the colour and would go hunting to "Hindamata" in Dadar Mumbai which is a whoesale place for clothes, along with my friends and would get all those light and unusual combinations for myself. And know what...... i used to get so much appreciation for my dresses .

Now after marriage, my hubby doesn't mind me wearing anything in particular, though i wear jeans and skirts now...but still i long for those Halter neck and sleeveless tops. So right now after comming to US my first aim has been reducing my weight and getting my arms in proper shape. So really has been working very hard for it.

cheers
vaidehi

You are right about that, Mals dear...I'm going to disturb you then...Probably I'll come through Mumbai during my flight; have a look at your wardrobe and demand a party from you...What are friends for?...

Just now read your post about what you have been wearing. Great Mom, yaar...You enjoyed a whole bunch of varieties...

I never dressed up in pants or jeans before coming to US. Of course, I had a real jump in dressing and I enjoy it very much. A cotton pant and a kurthi or tops is now more comfortable for me than a chudidhar even in summer. Skirts are the first option, though.

Wish that my option could win....

Dear Varloo,

You post was a bit hilarious on the point "Snatching clothes from brothers wardrobe" he he...

Jeans or a pair of trousers is the best bet for woman, i love to live in them.

During my college days friends would snatch clothes from their bro's wardrobe and wear. i have no brothers of my own and my cousins were not fatter than a single French bean. I could not even think of wearing a shirt from their collection, pants is too far off. I was never a thin girl, always healthy, not fat either.

Thanks to the brands in the market, their are clothes for all sizes... Now, I have put on weight as much of travelling is reduced, pick up/ drop and sitting glued to a seat shooting orders have become the cuppa. I forcibly move around in the lunch time and after coming home, I go for my walks, be it dark... as in Mumbai it is never late.. Else, I would have turned out to be replica of a gas cylinder.

With friends like you all around, topics come naturally to me.
Love always

Dear Padu,

Thanks for stepping in... Ah!! now I know how fair you are.. he he..

Your post reminded me of the days I would take a rickshaw to the station to board a train. I would wear my short tight skirt and a blouse. I would always carry the daily newspaper with me to catch up with reading in the train. I would slowly lift my leg and position myself in the rickshaw (rickshaws are comfortable for sarees and pants, chudis etc.. where we can throw our legs up in the air and board them .. he he.. ). With tight skirts it was not possible, so I would manage to get in to the rickshaw and then watch the driver ogling at me through out from the mirror. We would take a share rickshaw, so the neighbour is also having a gala time..
He he.. I also belong to the fair category..

Thanks for being here...

Dear Vaidehi,

You brought down the memories of Hindmata at Dadar. During my college days, I would buy materials from Ghatkopar and get them stitched. I was good at designing my clothes, the neck outline, the cuts and most of it was very unusual. I would stand out in the crowd and thus inviting lots of stares. It would make me conscious too. yeah .. is it awkward or fine.. I would take it as fine and walk with my head high.

With passing time, we started getting good readymade collections from Selection Centre, Dadar, Manoranjan at Mulund. I could easily slip in to a ready wear without any alterations, thanks for my built.. he he..

Then with western outfits, our famous Elco Market at Bandra and Fashion Street was all time favourite.

Today, we do not have to travel that far, as with so many malls you get clothes of your choice. Keeping in view of the corporate sector we cannot wear certain colours, certain patterns, so the collection has sobered.

When I am with friends, I am with my cargoes and a blouse or kurthi or a tee with not even a single trace of makeup including lispstick. Just like to be myself, tired of holding the post in office for more than 10 hours. What say...

Your post drove me down to a beautiful lane.. Thanks dearie... Always wear what you want to wear, do not bother of your size, what matters is how you carry it..

Love Dearie

Thumbs down Re: As a Teenager I Miss or Missed!!

Oh my darling sweet Friend,

Hope you are in the pinkest of your healths dear Malspie ma'am !!!

Again an interesting topic with which you had kindled the deep lying interests of all other ILites !!! Kindly accept the delay in my feedback.

I too have experimented with all kinds of attires and have felt comfortable in almost everything. I would always love to wear a apt-fitting designer tops with a contrast jean, decent and good looking Salwarand Chudidhar, long skirts with short blouses, tracks and bell bottoms !! I used to be (though even now I am) a bit traditional in my outfits and I should agree that my mom is more modern than I am. Hey, not that she would go out or let me out with a sleeveless but, she always love to see me in modern outfits and I at those times prefer a Salwar or long skirts; the reason being "my comfortability" !!!

I have never worn a half Saree !! Neither have I cribbed about not wearing the same. Even now, I do not feel that I have missed out on anything. I had first experienced a Saree when in school for our Rhapsody (school cultural- organized entirely by out student community). I still remember my Princi's and
dearest buddies comments on the same. It was a light, baby pink designer Saree, where the Pallu was designed as though it was to be worn by a queen. Very simple though attractive and decent (my comfortability range again !!) No lies, but I truly liked the Saree on me then !!! Still I preserve both the Saree and the written comments of my friends on the same (in my autograph diary !! :):)) Then I did wear Saree, for my school farewell, college department functions, my own flat's GruhaPravesh three and a half years back :):)

I have worn short divided skirts when I attended tennis classes. Not anywhere else !!! The early morning breeze when I paddled my bicycle (I used to start from my home by about 5.00am for the classes) with this kind of a outfit, a really "cool" and "extravagant" (if I can call so) experience..

A year back, my mind was completely filled with recollecting memories of childhood days, when we used to wear frocks and guess what I did?????????? I got my parents permission and went to a near by shop, purchased a nice, dark black material with huge, grand looking flowers and self-embroidered designs, went to the tailor immediately, and made her stitch the "frock" of my type and wore the same (though inside our house ) to my hearts content !!!!!

Now you made me skim through my wardrobe to have a quick look at all my favorites :):) Ah yes, Gagra Cholis and Sharara had always been my favorites and felt that I look good with them on me !! During my cousin sister's marriage in 2000, I designed my own Gagra and had asked my tailor to stitch the same !! It was a golden colored one, with lots of chamkees and jigina type, had also got a contrast ear and neck designer set and won my jeeju's heart ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha:):):) Loads of laughter did we all have and a great gaala time !!!! Thank you my friend for all these lingering memories leaves a fresh fragrance now !!

I also like Long Kurtas (dark colors) and (white) paijaamas !!

Now, did I miss out on anything else?? :):):)

Regards with Loads of Love
RamyaVaradharajan

NB: I do have a couple of feedbacks reserved for many of your other posts. Just praying that I should visit (pen down my thoughts) all of them by this week end. But I have been keeping track of all your great works time-to-time my dearest friend !!! :):):) Love!!

Dear Rami.

Let me first applaud you for the long post. I love the way you take time to answer a post and that too very meticulously. You have the talent to do things thoroughly else not touch it. Your late feedback does not matter, what matters is your lovingly penned words. I admire your taste of clothes. Good one as usual dearie.

Heart filled with love for a very dear friend - RAMI.

Dear Mals,

So very true, these days with so many malls comming around all over Mumbai, we need to go shopping to all these far away places. And No to mention these branded ones are so very afordable these days, that its but obivious we would prefer them. And they come in perfect size , colour and with so many diffn neck designs..... . Right now i amvery big fan of " W" for women brand of clothing. they are so nice and comfortable to wear and has got there unique patterns.

But i still miss my those days when i used to go to "Hindamata or Linking road" spl for shopping as well as for those eating spree of "Chats" outside these place. We used to hang out in group and would spend our entire day selecting dresses for each one of us and would keep eating to our hearts Content. Oh God .... how i miss my college days and all those fun.

yeah sometimes we feel so nice when we are left out to be oursleves without putting any mask and still be happy with our own circle of friends and like minded people. i really long for all those moments in my life ..... .

Cheers
vaidehi
