Default Moving..

Dear Sridhar,

The Deccan Herald link functioned only after several trials, the secrets of internet is just that to me, a secret!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading ' The Teddy Bear'. It moved me to tears. It was such a soft and sweet story, just like the pink teddy bear. This short story easily falls into a classic category and am sure, will make its mark with time. You have packed life's challenges, innocent love, parent's affection, the lure of commercialism and much more into such a short story. I am proud to be able to communicate with such a gifted and sensitive writer.

I am now motivated to read more of your works.

L, Kamla

Default How Can I Thank You?

Dear Vidya,
I felt like winning the Sahitya Academy Award when I read your post that my story had brought tears in your eyes. In the blurbs of my books and in my biodata in most of the websites, I always write that though I have won some awards here and there, when a reader tells me that she is moved by my story, that to me (and for that matter, any writer) is the greatest award I can ever hope to achieve in my life.
I did miss your comments on the other stories. But I am very happy that you were able to spare time for this one.
I am honoured Vidya.
My regards to Arun and my best wishes to your two year old.
sridhar

Default Thanks Kamla!

Dear Kamla,
Thanks for the nice words and sorry for the trouble with the link. I could have posted the story itself. But then I didn't want any copyright problems and hence provided the link.
This story has an interesting history. For one of Preethi's birthdays we got her a teddy bear. It was not pink but golden brown and it was very nice. Somehow I was impressed with the relationship a child shares with soft toys especially teddy bears. You should have also noticed that. The children will treat the other toys as mere toys whereas teddy bears will be bosom friends and bedtime companions.
I wrote the story in Tamil (at that time I did not write in English) and sent it to Vikatan on the birth of the millenium 01-01-2000. They kept that pending for 9 months and finally accepted it in September 2000 and published a few months thereafter. This story is a word by word translation of that story.
I am very happy that you liked the story.
As I was travelling out of Madurai, could not reply to your post earlier.
regards,
sridhar
