Kajli Teej

The Kajli Teej festival is celebrated to commemorate Goddess Teej. While the Teej festival is celebrated throughout Rajasthan, Kajli Teej is celebrated only in the city of Bundi.

Kajli Teej is celebrated in the Hindu month of Bhadra, which coincides with July or August. It starts on the third day of Bhadra and continues for two days.

A procession of the Goddess is taken out in a decorated palanquin to mark the beginning of Kajli Teej at Bundi. This procession begins at the beautiful Naval Sagar, travels through the principal markets and ends at the Azad Park.

I have seen Kajli Teej being celebrated at my sister’s place. This festival commemorates Goddess Teej. The married couples pray for the restoration of the ties of commitment and devotion. This renewal of marital bonds is characterized by swing rides and special sweetmeats.

The attractions of the festival comprise of fascinating performances by Hadoti artists and cultural programs organized during the evenings.

People from the nearby regions also visit this festival and participate in the programs. A procession is taken out with the Goddess in a decorated palanquin.

The main Kajli Teej festival takes place for two days only. But the festivities last till Janmashtami.
