Default Silicone Bakeware

Ladies,
Can you share your views on silicone bakeware.Iam planning to buy during thanks giving/christmas season. Are they long lasting than the metal /non stick ones? Can you suggest which is the best brand.I assume they are microwave, oven & dishwasher safe at all temperatures.

Thanks,
Ammu

I had a muffin pan in silicone and I gave it away as I didn't like cooking with it. When you have stuff in them they still flop around so you have to put on a metal pan to use. Also somehow I kept forgetting that it was not from the microwave and I burned myself a couple times as they get really hot. The silicone got stained which I also didn't like. I am back to metal pans. That being said, I just got the silicon mats for baking sheets but haven't tried that yet. I want to bake slices of provolone on the mats in particular to make vegetarian PLT sandwiches. (browned provolone, lettuce and tomato)

Thanks for the review. So the metal ones seem to be sturdy & easy to manage.Iam re-thinking on my decision to buy silicone bakeware.

I think while baking the silicon mat also need to be spread over a cookie/baking sheet as we do with aluminium foil?

Thanks,
Ammu

Silicon mat is a new thing. For cookies if the cooky has a lot of shortening in it you don't need to grease the sheet, otherwise you grease/oil the sheet and use a spatula to take them off. Nonstick sheet is often helpful. One thing that I have found super useful is the quick release aluminum foil. Why don't you try putting that over a pan and try it? I use it in my toaster oven pan and then clean it between uses. Its phenomenal.
