Rath Yatra in New York

Hi ILites,

This is small notification to all the members of the community who does want to visit the Rath YAtra but could not being in US.Nothing to worry.I am also new to US and came to know that the Rath Yatra is being held in New York City.

Rath Yatra will be coming up in the coming months though it too early for such notification but as we know we need prior plans for visiting.

I think it would be a good news for the people who use to stay in Orissa or West Bengal as Rath Yatra is being held very nicely there.Rath YAtra is very interesting among the children around there.They buy commercially available small wooden Raths and buy the the clay idols of Jagannath,Balaram and Subhadra and place them at different levels of the Rath.

I still remember those old childhood days.I used to decorate my Rath with flowers and small colorful bulbs and used to pull it on the road.It was such a fun.I hope those are not possible in US but we can miss this auspicious festival.

I have heard about the Rath YAtra but since I didnt visit US I have not seen.But I have heard the Rath from ISkon arranges the yatra and there is even Mela along a street in New York.It seems to be unbelievable but it is true

Today is Rath Yatra and just now i got the news that 6 people killed in Puri stampede. How sad?

I grew up in Orissa ...was there for about 7 years......

I can recall the festive mood there, as we used to join our neighbours on this occassion and celebrate...It was nice to watch the people dance behind the rath which used to be colourfully decorated

Yes, Poonam, saw the news about the loss of lives today in the crowd that gathered....sad indeed....

I know...its really sad news but Puri mei bohot crowd hote hai...every year yeh hota hai...mei kolkata se hu ..mujhe thori bohot malum rehti hai as Rath Yatra is very very much popular in West Bengal too .
