Neeya Naana - Star Vijay debate

Last week end I saw a debate program conducted by Gopinath, between college going girls and boys.
It was interesting to hear the likes and dislikes among them.

Two special guests appeared finally. I don't remember their names. They were looking very simple and in that one lady wore no accessories at all.

Guest told:

Girls are wearing accessories just to attract boys.

By doing so they prove that they are just an object to be used by man; one step below men, etc. etc.

There is no need to wear any kind of accessories. Be what you are and prove yourself.

Girls agreed by saying:

They have not got this thought earlier

Their parents by mistake have cultivated this habit

They will relook into that

My opinion:

It is our Hindu culture which treats girl children as Goddess Lakshmi. So our ancestors cultivated the habit of wearing vital accessories like bangle, chain, studs, rings, etc. After marriage, as Sumangali these are treated as important accessories to be worn. Even otherwise Ladies are expected to wear for fullness.

It is their own interest to wear accessories according to their capacity (may be a plastic, gold or diamond)

Some other culture may not entertain, that is a different scenario.

During the young age, children like to wear accessories according to the new trend and enjoy. That is the right age for them to experience such free life style by knowing their limitations.

I feel these guests have unnecessarily quoted this point by ill-treating womankind. I strongly dis-agree their judgment. This has spoiled the healthy debate program.

Did anyone watch this program? Otherwise, what is your opinion?

I had seen Neeya naana few weeks before and the debate was on "Whether Women should wear Make up/ Accessories etc"...I dont uderstand the whole concept of this program...Is this debate going to be of any use to anyone.?Dont tell me that you would be inspired by that Program and buy/Dont buy that Moisturizer or a Face Cream....
Such things are left to individuals Likes/Choices...I feel such Topics are totally stupid and these are done just to increase the TRP ratings...Gopinath was so much Biased in that Program...(He is biased in every episode)

There was another episode which talked about Abortion...There was a Dr couple who said they went ahead with Abortion because they had already a Baby and there was some career Plan for them...There was another lady who said she went ahead with her Baby even though she knew that the baby had some Health issues...immediately this Gopinath was comparing their Income and their attitude towards Kids...What Bull **** is this????Who is he to talk about other people lifes...comment about their decisions ...Its their choice...I seriously hate that guy to the core...

I saw part of that episode... Did not hear what the guests told.

It was actually educational for me to know about those latest accessories....Got a dd ....and I dont want her to call me country fruit. ;-) as I rarely wear those.

I dont mind buying accessories for dd and tv programs will never make any difference in my buying pattern.

But there is a concern that some of those "guest's" opinions can and will be quoted against youngsters by oldies who like to find fault with others.

I did not like one attitude in those youngsters though....They dont always have draw attention to their accessories constantly. It will make them look immature and work against them in a formal setting. But I am sure most youngsters are smart and will know the difference between a formal and casual setting.

I watched the show . 2 ladies are Activist Oviya and Shalini (psychiatrist ? not sure ) . Loved the way they talked .

Ladies should have some common sense that dangling ear rings or pink color shoes cannot boost their confidende .

Point is: We have to be presentable ; Need not be attractive .

I second OP's thought. dressing up and looking good is every woman's birthright. No one can go and say you are dressing simply to attract or seduce guys. To get attracted is man's nature. Even if a girl doesn't wear any ornament, a guy can still get attracted. That's what happens in US and other countries. Of course, there are jeweleries in such places but not like in India.

And, what about that Shalini the psychiatrist? I agree that she should have a detailed idea about such things being in a such a profession. But if you watch her in any neeya naana show, the topic would be very light hearted, but she always ends up speaking or connecting it to men-women equality. Why can't she speak in a light hearted or care free way for once? I find it very irritating.

Yeah, Gopinath is very biased. Heard he demands a huge sum to go colleges for judging some events/shows (not sure if its true)

And about Shalini, She always tells this, "Girls dress to attract boys" Does she mean to say if all the women dress like her or be without wearing ornaments, (kinda tom boyish look) Men wont look at women.

Vijay tv is interested in calling her to neeya naana show, might be some bond is signed ;-). I saw her in this prog for the third time.

Brahan,I saw that episode of Abortion.It was totally useless.And he does not handle things well also he is just vazha vazha kozha kozha.And he always claims "tamil""tamil" in everything but he tries to speak in English always.Have you noticed that?

I have not seen this episode.But I think dressing and accessories are ones own choice and to feel good oneself.I don't think everyone uses it to attract the opposite gender.

I don't like that psychiatrist Shalini very much!! Just because she doesn't dress up and keeps herself plain looking, she tends to be very judgmental about girls who do!!! I don't understand what good a judgmental psychiatrist can do.

And Gopinath, if he doesn't talk English, I think it would be better. Otherwise, I actually like the show. It's fun to get 2 different perspectives about some topic.

I like this show- but only some topics. I feel that the show focuses more o n the frivolous topics such as the last one, about the younger generations' fancies, frivolous relationships etc. May be this is to draw young viewers. But they had discussed many serious and new topics such as the boarding schools in Namakkal district, infanticide (I am not for abortion for silly reasons), equality in share in ancestral properties etc. And yes, Gopinath should stop talking in such English or brush up his pronunciation.
