We were bored to death after the exams. We longed for a break. We persuaded our parents for a weekend trip. Digha came out to be the popular choice. We were four families with fourteen members who started on a balmy summer morning from Dharmatala for Digha.

We reached there by noon. We had booked our accommodation in RBI guest house in Old Digha. It is a nice quaint house overlooking the sea beach. After getting refreshed we grabbed our towels and headed for the beach. The casuarinas bordering the beach were swaying in the salty wind. Big waves broke in froth against the boulders. The beach was not much crowded. Next two hours were spent in bathing and playing in the waters. I loved the feel of the cold water gushing through my feet. We also built sand dunes. Our parents had to coax us to come out of the waters.

We enjoyed a sumptuous lunch of sea fish and Bengali cuisine in a nearby restaurant. In the evening we strolled to New Digha and did some shopping in the local markets. We also paid a visit to the marine aquarium.

The evening was spent by sitting on the beach and gorging on fried fish and cold drinks. Due to high tide the sea had become choppy and we were forbidden to go near the water. Big waves splashed against the boulders incessantly. The waves gleamed in the moonlight. A cool breeze caressed us. As it was getting late we had to go back to our rooms. I slept peacefully listening to the sea.

Next day we went for a morning walk. The sea looked so peaceful in the morning sun. We saw fishermen catching fish in their small dingees. We hired a car and visited Talsari beach. It is a peaceful place with very few visitors. The sea was calm there and the beach was carpeted by red crabs. We also visited the temple at Chandaneswar. We bought cashew nuts at a cheaper rate and some sea shell souvenir.

We returned the following day carrying beautiful memories and completely rejuvenated by this short trip.
