Munnar is in central part of kerala.
6 hours journey from Kochi. There are no much places but Boating and tea estates are enjoyable. The climate is also good. But maynot take much time.
We were there at Kerala for our honeymoon, it took 5 days to cover it like Aleppy(house boats),Guruvoyur temple, Munnar,Coconut logoons, backwaters, spice tour etc......and we took flight from chennai to Kochi, it is the only airport in kerala to reach these places easily.

So you can plan and pack the things. But the worst part is the food, if you a NV' then no problem you can enjoy the seafood and beaf etc....
But big problem to Vegetarians, you really sick for food there.

    Hi ami
Munnar is near ernakulam. Munnar, nothing much to see over there! U can enjoy seeing hills & hills of tea plantation, boating & trekking...To reach u shoule get down either at Aluva OR Ernakulam. From Aluva (or Ernakulam) can hire a taxi or take a bus to Munnar. The journey from Aluva to Munnar is thro' ghat section & takes around 3 hrs.

    Hello Ami,

Even for us Munnar was the Honeymoon destination. We really enjoyed the climatic condition. It is part of kerala but the local people speak only tamil. We went to dam, waterfalls(very interior) that was breathe taking, echo point, some garden, tea and orange estate. Actually the taxi driver took us to all these places which was less seen. If you get good local guide , he might help you. We really enjoyed those 5 days.

Enjoy your trip. All the very best.

    Leena

    Hi Ami,

Munnar 2-3 days is more than sufficient. When we holidayed in kerala we visited the foll:

    Thekkady Carmelia Haven Resort. b.fast

Kumarakom Water Scapes Backwater Resort. b.fast

Alleppey Non-A/c House Boat. All meals (better to do morning to evening and stay the night at some hotel. They dock some place by 6 in the evening and start around 8 in the morning and bring you back to your destination by 10 AM. Not worth the night stay)

Kanyakumari Hotel Singaar International A/c rooms.

Poovar Isolo Di Cocco Backwater cum beach resort
Munnar: The hotel at which we stayed was not good.

WE stayed in Kochi for a day started our trip from there and ended at trivandrum, and took a flight back to mumbai from trivandrum.

My parents had been to Munnar recently. They traveled for a fortnight long.

The must-see places in Munnar are Mattupetty, Pothamedu, Devikulam, Attukal, Nyayamakad, Eravikulam National Park, and many more.

Munnar is a town, which can pinch your wallet if not planned properly. The main challenge remains is the transport. I am a frequent visitor atleast twice a year, taking different age groups for enjoyment. In the process,I have two very decent lodging places, where atmosphere is congenial.

Munnar,is predominantly tamil spoken, though it is in Kerela. Tea, cardamom, coffee in lower reaches are grown. Most of the land is owned by TATA tea and Harrisons Malayalam and you need permission access to visit their gardens.

Food is now better comparative to the scene some 5 years ago. Three good food joints are there..

Places of visit..A plenty if you are willing to wind down and travel..otherwise, it is a sea of tea green, endlessly throwing different colours.

There is Rajamalai, where the near extinct Nilgiri thar crosses your path. And if you are really lucky, you can spot wild elephants and Sambhar crossing your path..

If you would like to know further..please mail.
I am uploading the photos of Munnar today evening.

Munnar is a beautiful town for 3-4 days stay.

You can touch Munnar from Coimbatore - Udumalpet road also. On thsi way, you can touch upon an additional tourist spots too. Thiruneermalai falls. Its just 2-2.5 hours in this stretch from Coimbatore. On the way, you can see the waterfall and spent time there. Otherwise, you will have to come back in the same path.

There are just 2 veg restaurants in Munnar town. One is saravana Bhavan and the other's name I forgot. But the food is good at the second place and less crowdy.

After sight seeing falls, lakes, boating and anamalai, its better to spend a day just for a good trek in tea estates. You can also enjoy an elephant ride.

Munnar -kodaikanal route is filled with excellent scenic spots. You can also plan to combine this route if time permits.
