Washington D.C

After touring the Amish county we went to our friends house nearby and stayed for the night. Next day morning around 8.30 we headed towards Washington D.C.

It was a 2.5 hrs journey. Many warned us that parking is not easy in D.C, so they asked to park anywhere we find space and walk from there. Since it was a Saturday there was no parking fee anywhere. We were not able to find a single space to park our car. We were hunting for a space for nearly 20-30 mins in that traffic. Finally we found one paid parking, luckily it was affordable but we were supposed to pick our car before 5.00 p.m. We had no other go so we parked there ad started walking towards White House.
As everyone we too admired the building and the locality and clicked too many snaps. I didn’t expect it too be that easy accessible for public. It was very simple, didn’t even find any name board in front of the gate. Just 4, 5 cops and security were standing here and there.

Next we went to the capitol building. We were tired walking from parking area to White House so we thought of getting a cab, but was not able to find. Then we enquired about the hop-on-off buses and double decked sight seeing buses. The packages in those were really good but it is the best for people who tour the whole day or two. We had only 4 hrs left in which we can cover only 3 or 4 places at the most and also finish our lunch, so we decide to walk rather than taking those buses.

Initially the climate was good so we were comfortable but as time went on the sun was scorching. Since we didn’t have breakfast nor lunch we felt very tired. It was really a big walk from White House to Capitol building. On the way we came across many historical monuments and buildings, so we took snaps then and there. We tried finding some restaurants but was not able to. Since we don’t eat NV on Saturday it was a hard time for us to find a good hotel. So we decided to visit the capitol and then have lunch immediately.

After a long time we reached the capitol building. It was a splendid architecture. Took too many photos, gaped the building for a long time and rested for a while. Then we planned to visit the Air & Space Museum also find a hotel on the way to the museum.

Again that was a long walk. Almost we felt like fainting, not able to find a cab nor a hotel. We saw many road side stalls selling some food items. Initially we ignored it, but as time went we felt like eating something. Those stalls had only one vegetarian item. They named it Cheeze pizza tough it was not. We had no other option swallowed it by closing our eyes and rushed into the air & space museum.

The museum had many features of attraction. Science and Techie people will really love it. Since it was air conditioned we felt like roaming inside the museum itself for some more time. Time was running, we had to again walk back all the way and take out the car before 5.00 so we made a quick visit to all the monuments and building on the way and reached the parking garage just few mins before 5.00.

Then staying inside the car we rounded and took snaps of some important places like Pentagon city, War memorial, some old bridges and so on.

Earlier we had a plan of halting in our friend’s house that night, next day visit the King of Prussia mall in Delaware, and reach NJ by evening. But we were dead tired walking. We walked for almost 10 miles in D.C. So we called our friend and told him about the plan change and headed towards NJ.

On our way back to NJ we came through Philadelphia. The downtown was awesome with those night lights and old bridges. Tried a lot to take snaps of them and share with you all but they didn’t come out properly as I tried to take them from a moving vehicle and also it was night time. Sorry ladies. At last we reached home around 10.30 p.m safely.

Cindhuja,

Wonderful narration of your trip....Specially the detail of the people in Amish county...I had never known that such culture exists in US...thanx for that..

Just now read about your trip to the Capitol and was waiting for the photo to give my FB....
Great ones yaar...Thanx so much for sharing....

Regarding the parking problem...I think it is the same story in many places.....And find vegetarian food seems to be a bit of a problem outside our country...

Bye
