Default Food for road trip

Hi everybody,
We have planned for a 5 day vacation in Wyoming and since we are staying at the yellowstone national park am kind of hard-pressed about food. There is no kitchen unit ,however am taking my MW,rice cooker and a cooler with me.Hopefully they have power points there which am yet to confirm!Add my 16 month old to that mix and am totally confused.
Okay, am taking idlies, lemon rice mix ,vathakuzhambu and pulikachal for the adults.

1. I would like to know the shelf life of idlis and please do share your ideas for food that i can take.Am not a big fan of podis as it tends to be a little dry to eat.

2. Do you know any small blender that i can carry for mashing my son's food?

3.What about my son?How do i make dhal and rasam in MW?Are there any canned baby foods that are yummy?

Waiting for your suggestions.

SuBa.

Hi Suba,

You can make daal/rasam/pulav in the rice cooker. Or mix the daal and rice in the rice cooker to make khichdi. My mom even used to carry oil, make a tadka in the rice cooker and make yummy veggie pulav.

You can take instant rasam powders as well.

Or to add to your arsenal of cooking accessories, get a small electric hotpot. I take it on trips to make tea, maggi noodles, instant soups, heat up ready to eat foods etc. It's only 10 bucks and you can use it to make rasam. You can find this at walgreen/walmart etc

Dear Suba,
Idlies generally dont last more than 36 hours. Even after 24 hours they tend to give away. Havent you tried making rasam in microwave. Just go to this url which in in Indusladies itself. Chitvish have given how to make different recipies using microwave. This Micowave Rasam is very easy to make too. You could give a try at home before going on your trip.

As you are taking Microwave you can make even rice easily in it. Go to the microwave cooking thread of Chitvish and you will find all the answers to all your above questions. Happy journey. Do post your travelogue after returning.

Hi Suba,
Try out a few other of the MW recipies too. I have tried many of them and they did turn out well. You could use some of the recipies during the picnic too.

To make pulav in the rice cooker, heat some oil in the rice cooker, add your tadka , mix veggies and soaked rice, and then cook it with same amount of water as you were making regular rice. it tastes really good with pickles and yogurt!
