Default Is Vacation in Kashmir ,Safe?Need info

Hi Friends,

I am starting a new thread regarding the vacation in Kashmir.
As we all know that Kashmir is a dream place in India and everybody long to go there for vacation mostly.IT is a Indian Switzerland.I have been to KAshmir when I was a baby ,I was hardly of 5 years old ,so you can understand I dont either remember what I have seen and I need to visit that place again.

I would like to visit Kashmir once in a lifetime but many people still say that Kashmir is not that safe for a family to go for a vacation and on the other hand I also hear people going for vacation in Kashmir.

If anybody who is from Kashmir or nearby that place or staying in the northern part of India and know a lot about the tourism of Kashmir ,please give me some information. How to go?Where to book?Places to visit in?

I know that informations are available in net but people who have been there is much more informative than the net information stuffs.

I guess this would be helpful to Kashmir lovers and people who like to go for a shikara ride in the Dal Lake of Kashmir.

Cheers
Nabanita

Hi nabanitapain,

I have been wondering about this too. I have had the pleasure , or luxury , I should say to have been in Kashmir for a month , some years ago. My father was in charge of the scouts group and he was able to take us along. We were assigned a beautiful cottage and provided three meals a day. Most of the time, we were in Pahalgam and loved it. We also visited Srinagar and Jammu.
Unfortunately,we did not take any pictures.

When I mention the trip to me children, they ask the same question as to whether it is safe to go now.

I guess this is an answer which is not going to be easy to reply. We all are aware of the media covering the news of terrorism in this place and I consider myself extremely lucky of having the privilege to be in the paradise way back in 1988. The memories are still fresh for me and I know these are not going to get erased for the rest of my life. Its a pity that travelers have got to ensure their safety before deciding a trip there but those who have been there would know how it feels, something that is impossible to describe in words.
