I want to share my travel experiences with you all with a Photo blog. This is my first attempt in that. Hope you all like it so that I can post more

After almost 6 months of planning it was finally time for us to travel to South Island, NZ in winter 2013. It took almost 3 weeks to get the NZ visa. Our transit was through Sydney hence had to apply for Australian transit Visa which was free and got it in 2 days.

So after a long flight from Singapore we reached Christchurch, it was quite cloudy in Christchurch. The aerial view of Christchurch was some thing which we cannot forget.

After landing in Christchurch we had a pick up from the motel which was 15 mins away from the Airport. We had enough time to rest on that day. Christchurch does not have much to see as it was affected badly during an earthquake in 2011. So we decided to visit the places in Christchurch while returning from NZ. The next day we had a scenic Tranzalpine train from Christchurch to Greymouth. We started Christchurch around 8 AM and reached Greymouth around 1 PM. The views were great from train. There was also a open coach where people could stand. Weather was quite cold in few stations as it was winter there.

From Greymouth we took a coach to Fox village. We reached Fox village around evening. Its a small village and our motel was right near the bus stop.

Next day we had a heli hike in the Fox glacier. There are two glaciers Franzjoseph in the Franzjoseph village and Fox Glacier in the Fox Village. There were also 3 types of hike Half day, Full day and Heli hike. Heli hike would take us to a certain attitude and we had to hike from that point. We had opted for this as we were told Franzjoseph was not conducting the heli hikes during that time due to weather issues in the glacier, hence we had booked heli hike in Fox glacier. We went to the Fox guides which was near to our motel they gave us the required accessories for the hike and took us to the helipad.

After the helihike we visited Lake Matheson in the evening. In a sunny day one can see the perfect reflection of Mount cook in this lake. We have to walk around 2 kms to reach this lake
