Documents for applying passport

Hi,
What are the documents needed for applying passport?

I have ration card. But I don't have birth certificate. Can I submit some other thing instead of birth certificate?

Please let me know.

How about your 10std mark sheet.It must have your date of birth and name on it.That should suffice.

if you dont have birth certificate you can use Xth mark sheet ....if it is possible they you can apply at your municipality office to get the birth certificate...you have to apply at the same municipality office where you were born..they may need few documents and very little fee...you may be having some certificate by doctor when you were born ..its easy or you can take help of some advoctes who make notaries etc., applying for birth cerificates is everyday for the people working there.

Pls check this site Regional Passport Office, Chennai on passprt details and queries. Better take an nline appointment and present your application in person on that date to avoid standing in the long queue.

Make sure you have correct names in Ration card, recent 1 yr updated passbook and bank statement (if required as part of ur documents)

In chennai passport office, tatkal forms are collected in first floor and regular forms are collected in ground floor. There are separate queue for online appintment and daily submission. So pls make sure to stand in the correct queue to save your time and energy.

I recently had a visit to the office for my sister's passport and had a tough day due to lack of info and overcrowded and irritated behaviour of the support staff.

Make sure you take sufficient copies of the documents also.

My actualy problem is, these is a difference between my actual DOB and official DOB. So, I couldn't use that. I have 10th mark sheet. If I can, i'll use that. Can you tell me what are all the other documents that i need to bring?
