Smile Re: Best Sight Seeing Places/Theme Parks

Hi Vandhana,

Thanks for the links to the Disney World and also to the Bay area, San Diego and LA.

The main reason for me to start this thread was to find out how others enjoyed the different places and to hear their views and suggestions.

You have given a detailed and beautiful description of all the attractions in Disney World that has 4 main parks excluding the Water Parks.

We have visited both Disney World (twice) and Disney Land (twice) and it is sheer MAGIC !! Everyone from young to old should have this experience at least once in their lifetime !!

In fact, I can never ever outgrow my fascination and wonder for Disney World. I believe each time you visit this massive and magnificient theme park....( even though you had visited it before) you are bound to discover something new !

We visited Walt Disney World during May 2002 when we were living in Ft.Lauderdale, Florida. It was about 4 hours drive to Orlando for us. Since we were just 4 of us..me, my husband and 2 children. My kids were about 7 and 4 years of age at that time. We planned to divide the trip for 2 weekends..so we went for the first time during the first week of May and second trip during the last week of May.

Though we got the Park hopper tickets, we decided to devote an entire day for each park..that way we could cover most of the main attractions!! We were very fortunate to cover all the 4 theme parks, their attractions and parade...!

As Vandhana suggested in her post, it will be best to order the DVD if you are planning to visit either of the Disney parks. Though Disney land was opened first, Walt Disney World...is much bigger , massive and has more attractions than Disney land. It is suitable for all age groups and everyone can have a wonderful time here..if we carefully plan the rides & attractions that we want to see...!

It is best advisable to get the Park maps at the entrance (have two or three). Vandhana also pointed out the strollers available for $10...yeah, we did that during our visits..and the best part is...when we return the strollers...we get 2 Disney Dollars in return. That is a wonderful souvneir !! My kids really love it even today!

In my next post, i will give some details about the Animal Kingdom , our wonderful time over there and the main attractions in it.

Meanwhile, if any of you had been to these wonderful places...please share your experiences...

Cheers
Krithika

Also when is the best time to visit this place, places to stay nearby, details of places for dining etc.

Hi Nandhu,

This thread is for discussing not only about theme parks but also any other sight seeing places like state parks, water falls, important landmarks, famous buildings, museums etc. It is not restricted only to places within US, but can be anywhere in the world.

Also, if I give the budget and the place...then it will be too restricted..since every family have their own way of planning & organizing for the trips. If there is an open discussion...with no limitations..then it can range from low to high level budgets...right?

As I had already pointed out, if people share their trips and mention the number of people who joined them...then it will easy for others to calculate and have an approximate idea of the cost & time taken.

Nandhu, somehow, i can never outgrow my fascination & interest for the theme parks.

And yes, I have been to Six Flags Marine World (many times) in California. There is also the "Paramounts Great America" in Santa Clara, CA...we've also been there..Universal Studios (twice)...LA, San Diego and so on...but I felt if others also narrate their visits...it will be an interesting and fun discussion!

Cheers
Krithika

Now, if someone says theme park.. I find some sort of excuse or try to change it to some other place

Krithika ..

It depends on lots of things.. every ones vacation might depend on (1) the sort of people - kids, only adults.. if kids.. toddlers or grown up ones.. (2) budget... car or flight or cruise... and so one :)

so its kinda hard to tell which places :( may be you can give a place and budget and members can suggest what they visited in that place and how they budgeted the trip?

About theme parks..There are lots of them.... it depends on your budget... if you havent been to sixflags.. its worth it.. for the first time...Theres one in NJ..

In Arizona, we have the Grand canyon ( North rim and the south rim). both are different experiences. Personally, North rim is more beautiful and less crowded.
Then we have the serene Sedona. If you like to get the western feeling, then you would love the Canyon de Chelley and Monument valley.
Then there is the quaint town of Prescott. Down south, we have the Kartchner caves near Tucson, Bisbee mines and the town of Tombstone. If you like the mountains, there are Pinetop and Showlow. In Flagstaff, you can go skiing on the snowbowl ski resort. It all depends on when one is traveling. I would recommend the canyon de chelley and Monument valley for the spring and fall.

Hi Shravanthika,

You are right...most of the theme parks have the same set up...that's the beauty of US...wherever you go...everything is standardized and makes life easy for everyone.

As for theme parks...though the general layout maybe be similar...each have their own themes and uniqueness too!

Cheers

Shravanthika,

I've not been to Europe before...except for the stop over @ Frankfurt... but sure other IL'ites might be able to give information.

Btw, you are not out of topic..since I've mentioned very clearly that this discussion is for places anywhere in the world...not just restricted to US and Canada!

So go ahead...and ask all the question you want !

Cheers
Krithika
