hi friends, one of my friend is travelling to rameshwaram next week. it is just a family trip. and they are from north india. the doubt is ''is it compulsory to take bath in the temple sea before entering into the temple or is it okay that we can visit the temple after bathing from the hotel which we stay?????''
If not doing any specific puja,It is not necessary.Inside the temple there are some 20 theerthams,They can bath in that,if they wish. But it is a nice experiance to bath in all those theerthams.Outside the temple, you can find helpers who charge around 400rs. to help you with the theertaham ritual.
dear mariselviprabhu, thank you for your quick reply, my friend is from north india, they are not doing any specific puja and she does not want to take bath in the sea.:drowning:hide:
Not a compulsion to take bath in the sea before darshan... but you will definitely enjoy bathing at rameshwaram as there are no waves, you can go as long as you want in the sea to take bath... As North Indians, they may not know about the wave-less sea, its such a nice feeling to take bath.... on a note that the water should not have been polluted...
Dear Lavu Sister, If they are just visiting the temple then bathing in the sea is not mandatory, But getting drenched in the theerthams (Wells) inside the temple is divine, and wards off all ill effects They can even have bath at the hotel and then at wells also, for a group of 3 -5 they charge 400 to 500, apart from the temple fees. If they are not visiting during festival days or new moon day then temple will be less crowded and can have peaceful darshan. Happy Pilgrimage trip, Best wishes..
To add, here is the info about Navabhasanam Navagraha temple at Devipattinam, Legend is that Lord Ram installed nine stones signifying the nine planets in the sea and worshipped them before he left to conquer Lanka (the present day Srilanka)! Those stones signifying the planets are partly submerged in the sea and any devotee touching the soil of the land is blessed for life ! The temple is said to relieve one of all past and present lives sins ! Though the place is not maintained well, it is said one gets complete darshan visiting the place, where Lord Ram did pooja, One should visit the place early otherwise most of the Navagrahas are submerged in water. (We could see only 5 of them when we went)
Dear Saisakthi Sister, Thanks a ton for your amazing info. My friend is already excited with all these tips. Once again thanks for your helpful and amazing info.
Rameshwaram sea is called Agni teertham .Of course many teerthams are inside the temple but The sea is considered very holy . Sree Ram bathed here before doing tithi to his father dasarathar . Other seas you have to bathe in only some particular time as per shastras but here YOU CAN BATHE ALL THE TIME , even at midnight !! Generally rameshwaram trip is not complete unless you bathe here > Unless for health reasons , please do take a bath
