| | re: Flora2000 Contest for October '09 Last year 1week before to my b'day, my very close friend asked me about what gift i want on my b'day. I told him just some of my favourite flowers will be the best gift for me. he said that he'll surely gift me my favourite flowers i.e red roses. i was very excited that i'll get the bunch of red roses that i had never got on my b'day. But just 1 day before my b'day, he got a call from his college to fill the registeration form urgently he has to report the college next day. So on that day he left for delhi without informing me. and next day on my b'day, from the morning i was waiting for the flowers but slowly slowly the day came to an end and finally the day ended and i didnt got the flowers. my eyes were full of tears. i was so upset and very angry with him. then after two days he called me and said sorry about not informing me and all. i forgave him but still i felt bad that sometimes our expections never fulfilled and thats why we should not expect anything from anyone. nivedita shrivastava

hi.......
Flowers, especially jasmine is my weekness from childhood.in my village jasmine is grown in almost all households.but it never grow well or give flowers when i plant on my garden, jasmine is the only plant that fails to grow in my garden.all time it grows to a certain extent, but stops growth and stand still for months without flowering.its fragrance make me die for it.in childhood,i use to wake up at 5.30 and go to collect milk from a nearby house.only reason for waking from bed is to collect jasmine flowers from that house.buying milk is an oppurtunity to fullfill my wish.
in my marriage too i took extra care for my flowers, than my costumes or jewellery.my native is kanyakumari district and we ordered some huge amount of jasmine flowers from thovalai(biggest flower market in south tamilnadu) near nagercoil.
knowing my die hard love to jasmine,my husband usually buy me flowers for 10 or 20 rs every other day.but for my wedding day,he use to buy me double the amount.
but i missed jasmine when i was supposed to shift to kolkata.i spent three years in kolakata due to my husband's official transfer.there nobody use to wear flowers in hair.flowers are only meant for goddess and their way of stringing flower is also different.they use to make it like a garland and not the way we string in tamilnadu.i was like missing everything.to ease my frustration my husband buy that garland strings for my special occasions.but they dont have fragrance of our jasmine.when i fly to tamilnadu for vacations, the first thing me do is buying atleast 3 "muzham" of jasmine and the next thing is to go to any vegetarian hotel for my favourite ghee roast.south indian dosas are also rarely available there.
now am back in chennai and plenty of flower is avilable.only hesitation to buy is the rising cost.now they are giving only 1 'muzham' for 10 rs.still in my village my neighbour has a grown up jasmine and i use to collect flowers when am in my native.thanks to my neighbour.

I really dont know wether me & my classmate (who looked endlessly at me the whole day ) were love of each others' lives, but sure, then. We had never spoken for 3years. We happened to study college together ! We reached final year of college & it was VALENTINE'S. The day, any girl/guy in love MUST be together ! There, I was on February 14th just went to college to attend an hour's special class of Botany. We again stared fondly at each other( Probably dancing a duet amidst Aizoaceae & Acanthaceae 's families!! ) The class ended, & there came the MOMENT OF MY LIFE !! He came up & smiled deep ! In my mind I had just 1sentence,Where is my rose? We walked & walked endlessly like actors of Malayalam Art movie ! Finally he handed me few cards,.TAKE ! Wow, how romantic ! He gives it to me like a notebook !Well, something is better than nothing, people !!
I smiled, shy! No I didnt draw any arc on the ground with my toe! I still looked at his bag, as he smiled & said, FINISH ! huh ? My smile broke ! You know I love you, right, he asked ? Oh yeah, Mr.! I have been gaping back at you for the whole 5 years of my life too ! But, afterall it is the 1st VALENTINE CARD I have recieved ever..I gave him my cards & said, Thanks ! Oh, you'r welcome ,
he replied ! Guess, only 2 morons like us can fall in love ! So, finally didnt get the MOST PRECIOUS GIFT any girl would love to recieve on her 1stValentine's!
It was time for see-off party hosted by juniors. He walked me to the bus stop everyday, As we reached, he was searching his shirt pocket , To my shock, he proudly pulled a rose ! Before I smiled, I saw the flower fall side from the stalk , like a patient dropping dead with a tlted head in old Indian movies ! Now, how else do you think a flower will react when it is placed in pocket facing DOWN !! He quickly, lifted the rose&smiled in glory ! I was too confused to react, but who cares !
I GOT THE FIRST FLOWER OF LOVE !! Woohoo !
I still have it safe between the pages&guess what , my husband takes it out sometime&fondly smiles at it , wondering why he behaved like a moron when he had to give THIS ROSE !!!

I equate flowers here to the romantic response that one longs for. I got engaged way back in December 1980. The wedding was to take place on 21st May, 1981. I worked in a Bank and I had seen many of my friends who got engaged having a gala time with their partners during courtship. So, as a 25-year old engaged girl, I too had my dreams of meeting my partner and chatting with him. I kept counting days. My dear husband never made any attempt. He never called me. Every day I would wake up with a lot of hopes and go to office but by five in the evening all my dreams would end. On Ugadi day, I thought of taking the lead and called up his home with my parents' permission on the pretext of wishing. But all I got in reply was a formal, 'thank you and wish you and your family members a Happy Ugadi' from my fiance. I was totally disappointed. On 1st of April, my uncle, who is very close to me played a trick and asked his secretary to call me up. She said, 'Mr.Narasimhachar wanted you to go to Unity Buildings Kamat Hotel at 5.30 today. He wanted to meet you. I am his secretary.' Knowing my fiance by then, I could very easily conclude that it was a prank call! Except for a brief time when I went for shopping with his family, I did not even see him until my wedding day. I was so upset and after marriage, this formed the topic of my first fight with him! He said, he did not believe in courtship because exploring each other after wedding was most enchanting and practical. 'What if I found you a mismatch and dropped the proposal? I did not want to ruin anybody's life. It was my decision to accept whoever came my way and lead my life exploring her.' Till today, I complain about his principles and fight with my husband for having lost a golden opportunity of courtship. Our love for each other keeps getting strengthened every minute, though!

| | re: Flora2000 Contest for October '09 Flowers especially roses r the best way to express love to ur loved ones.....i love flowers so much that i cut out pic of flowers and stick it all around my room.
It was my frst wedding anniversary , and i was new to abudhabi ,i was so happy that i was with my husband for the first anniversary . I expected flowers from my husband but he brought me a gift (thats also precious) , we arranged a small party in a restaurant with friends and family. i thought he,ll bring flowers when he comes back from the office but still no ...but then it was around 7 p.m we were getting ready to go out for the party , i dressed up with my new saree, and then i heard a calling bell..i went opened the door .... for my surprise , it was my cousin who is also my best friend with two bouquets of red roses... i was so happy , .. one was from her and the other one on behalf of my sis in INDIA ...I jumped with joy i hugged my cousin, and then gave a ring to my sister and said a big thank u .....i expressed how happy i was after receiving the bouquet....
I expected a bouquey of love , but recieved a bouquey of affection , i think both are precious....is'nt it ...
(i realized that my sis who was with me for 20 yrs really know me well , my hus got only a very less time to know bout me...)
After living five yrs with my hubby , i know how much he loves me!!!!!!
he is so sweet!

| | re: Flora2000 Contest for October '09 Mine is love cum arrange marriage, am keralite and my hubby is a Maharastrian. But we celebrate both side festivals. That was our first vishukani (kerala new-year) after marriage. We both were excited, it was my dad the most happiest in that to hear that am going to have vishukani. For vishu, konapoo flower (yellow color flower is the most important in vishukani), this konapoo is seen only during this festival time. A week before the festival I showed my husband a tree full of konapoo near railway station. I thought not to pluck before festival even though it is much demanded. My mind didn’t let me to pluck since the tree looks marvelous with yellow shine and glitter fresh.vishukani is kept by family head (mother or any elder female in the house) in the midnight after everybody slept. She will arrange the Lord Krishna decorated & litted with lamps and keep all the fruits, konapoo, some coins, money, coconut cut 2 halfs, mirror. This arrangement is called kani, early morning she will see the kani first, then take one by one of the family member blind folding their eyes by her hands and let their eyes open in front of kani...in this festival elders will bless the younger and give money to them. To celebrate this festival we purchased one new Lord Krishna, flowers, fruits, mirror...etc expect the konapoo flower…I was desperate to see the konapoo tree looks empty and hunted at railway station. I didn’t find konapoo any where in market…i checked with temple peoples they too told konapoo parcel will come late. I checked with my dad also. All the excitement went in vain lack of konapoo which is very special for vishukani...Me and my hubby we reached home at 10pm searching everywhere… and the day ended. I arranged kani without konapoo.., early morning I saw kani as well I blindfolded my hubby eye’s and showed him kani.we only worried about missed konapoo..Which I expected I will get it .My parents visited to see, how I kept kani, my dad praised, blessed with 501/- and put his hand in pocket and took one string of konapoo flower and said this is for you...i was stuck for a moment wordless to see konapoo even though it is very late. I felt like walking through a garden full of never-before-seen flowers….smelling great, looking bright and God is beside... |
