Hi, My son is 18 months old. He cries and shakes when I try to trim his toe nails. But is absolutely comfortable when I trim his finger nails. How can I overcome this problem?

My grandmother told me not to do it while the baby is sleeping. I did not ask her why. Any way, try 1. distract him by giving him his favorite toy to paly with or watching TV and then cut the toe nails . Also, make sure its soft from a bath or shower. 2. Cut yours first so he can see what you did and then try to cut his. Also when soft.

Same problem with my 19 month old... I can only trim one or two toe nails at a time .. I cannot distract him or keep him interested in what I'm doing longer than that ... so we do it all week 2 at a time :) Last edited by Ishan'sMom; 8th May 2008 at 07:33 AM.

i agree with seeba, i followed the same procedure when my dd was small and afraid to let me cut her nails - I used to cut the nails just after she would fall sleep - that time she is in deep sleep so i can cut the nails easily. hope this helps
