Default my sons intrests drive me crazy

hi all

this might be a strange problem thats driving me nuts from months. My 2 1/2 year old son is facinated by clocks and fans.He loves them and likes to play with them. And in every shop we go he wants them and yells for them. In every 5 words he talks there will be something about clock or a fan. we have tried to divert him to diffeent things but...no use he comes back to them..help me solve this problem.

wow the clocks , really? most babies like fans as it goes round and round. my 3 yr old likes cars and trucks, even he does the same thing, wherever we go we come home with a hotwheels car or truck, i know how hard it wud be, i used to buy him lots of car books and stickers, and used to tell him like count the cars or what colour is that car or what letter it starts with, believe it or not he knows amazing things abt cars and names of all trucks which i learnt from him so theres nothing to worry abt, maybe some day in the future your son may invent something based on that, so try encouraging him like buying clock books, stickers or some fun activities based on that. you can even ask him to identify the numbers in the clock, or tell him how clock works something like that believe me you will see amazing results .........Good Luck.

Dear Sudhira,

I am sorry i dont have kids as of now and can not advice u but i really felt that ur baby is v cute

This makes me remember my neighbor's son back home.My god! the baby only used to speak about was house construction. He was hardly 2 yrs old but that was the only thing on his mind. His favorite toy was a hammer. All his toys related to house construction like cement mixing machine and things

So i think some kids have this weird likings and ur son is one such genius...

Default Can my son play with dolls and stuffed toys.

Hi, I'm new to this site and I don't know if I am asking this question in the right thread. My son is 25 months old and loves to play with stuffed toys and dolls.. He has names for each of them like julie the dog, lambert the lion etc. He makes them sleep on the sofa, takes them for a ride on his toy car and all. My mom in law says that he does that because he has got a "feminine streak" in him. Now i am getting freaked out wondering if he really has got a "feminine streak" in him. Off course he plays with his spider man, elmo, toy cars ,balls, guns and other "manly toys".
I'd like to think that this kid has got a colorful imgination. Can someone please tell me if my son has got that "feminine streak" in him.

you got be kidding. come on anju what are you talking about? this doesn't show that he has feminine streak. he just likes dolls so nothing wrong in that. whoever said that these are only girls toys and those are only boys toys. i have seen many boys playing with utensils and many girls playing with cars. don't ever think of anything like that. he is just a baby.....

Anju,
Understand his imagination. He names the dolls. And he plays with dogs and lions. My son loves to play with stuffed toys and utensils. Infact my daughter have given all her kitchen set toys to him to play and he plays cook at home. He makes coffee for us. He prepares lunch etc etc. And I keep telling mom and DH that one day he will become a fivestar chef.

Dont worry about all these things. He will change while times goes on and on. You will really have to take long time to find out the dog and lion dolls once he starts going to school. Forget all those feminine streak stuff and encourage his imagination and creativity.

Dear Sudhira,

It is so common in kids to like particular things. I've heard from a neighbour, a kid was always behind pencils and used to write on the walls not only in thier house but wherever he sees the wall.

Padija's advice holds good.

Please don't distract him. Some of the interests in early ages vanish like anything, as the time goes by.
