| My son also used to refuse to open his mouth to brush,he would hold it tightly shut!but he likes me singing songs to him ,so i sing "This is the way i brush my teeth, brush my teeth, brush my teeth....this is the way i brush my teeth, before i go to bed" (or instead of bed 'early in the morning') then he opened his mouth......so whenever i brush his teeth, morning&night,i have to sing this song&he shows me.....so you could try that&see if it works for you.

Hi Krithin, It's very hard for kids to get into the routine, but what i would recommend is to brush your teeth in front of him or just let the child know that you are going to washroom to brush your teeth don't force him into doing anything he will follow your routine which he will get use to it . give him week or so and i bet he'll follow the routine. shefali

Hi ladies.. My son is 3yrs old now. He turned three on last friday. I want to brush his teeth twice daily ..once in the night before sleeping and once in the morning. He doesn't like to brush . He was not like that before. He started brushing when he was 2 yrs old. He likes to brush. But suddenly I've seen a change in him since 1 mnth. He doesn't like to brush at all. It is becoming difficult for me in the morning to make him brush. I'm using Kids toothpaste. strawberry flavour. very nice taste also. Please give some suggestions. cheers laxmi

Laxmi, I have the same problem, except that my son who also just turned three, never liked to brush. When he was smaller, I used to forcefully make him brush, but now I have found couple of tricks that work - they may be helpful to you. 1. For some reason, my son is receptive to brushing after he drinks his morning milk (I am not too thrilled about it, but then can't fight all the battles) 2. If me or his dad brush with him, he is more likely to brush. 3. We make a game of brushing - taking turns - something like "Amma brushes my upper teeth, now its your turn to brush the upper teeth" 4. Another game I have made up is using animal sounds - eg: How does an elephant brush its teeth? (make an elephant sound) and then brush a little. 5. Try another kids toothpaste that has a licensed character that he likes (I use a Thomas & Friends toothpaste) I agree, it is a tough thing for me to get him to brush twice a day and you have my full sympathy.

Dear Nalin , You could start brushing your kid's teeth by now. Believe me you need to cajole her to start doing this ! If you have a daughter things are easy.. just need to say they wil have white teeth and look beautiful !! Boys are naughty fellas !! Buy the smallest of the tooth brush and do it carefully.. If you hurt them by even a small way then you are " punished " !! You could also take a wet cloth and rub the teeth all over and then just go over brushing with the finger just to make them hear the " squeak " ( clean ) sound !! You can try both together for some days. Brushing is definitely better but !

Alright Lakshmi , Let us face it.. You dont have to brush your 3 year old's teeth ' twice ' ! He could start doing that when he is 5 + .. Just make sure he gargles his mouth after every meal. Check for any decay and tartar and that is it ! The tricks the other lady gave were good enough.. Try them.. as it is a cajoling that makes children brush their teeth ! You said the taste of the tooth paste is good ? Says who ? Check with him what he desires.. :)

couple of tricks that worked for us: take him to the shop and let him choose his toothbrush. buy a poster that shows how to brush the teeth and leave him in charge. my boy got one complimentary at the nursery and he's so proud to follow the chart and brush his teeth self. He is a big boy and doesn't need our help (that's what he claims) last important tip: don't force it on him and make his morning unpleasant. Tell him in other ways instead. good luck:) Latha
