| Hi fellow potty-trainers! My son is 3 years 1 month and still getting potty trained. I had begun the project couple of months back and it got so stressful running after him (me now pregnant now!)... i stopped. Now that it's summer time and my parents are here too i've begun again. First step i did is from couple of weeks back, with diaper on, when he feels like doing job no.2 i told him to sit in the bathroom and do. That way he has now got used to the idea that he can't do potty anywhere he wants! now he's off diaper when at home (nursery he wears and also at bedtime) and so far no accidents. Now the imp question I have is my son is afraid to do no.1 standing. He wants to do it only seated. How do I train him on this? Or should I just do this step-by-step... i mean first let him be completely trained and then make him stand and pee... confusing! Latha |

| Hi Priya, My friend did this... to first get her used to sitting on the toilet to do no.2, ask her to do it with diaper on in the toilet. so she'll lose her fear (most children they say are afraid even of the sound of something falling into the toilet!) then she can gradually do it without diaper too.. | Hi Poonkodi, also by personal experience, I'd recommend not getting too tensed or pressurised on training your kid. My boy is 3 years old. I put him without diapers at home about 2 months back and he still didn't know when to tell us even for no.1. I was getting worked up on this because in Germany most kindergardens don't admit children that are not toilet-trained (and we're expecting the second one in 2 weeks). I think he too didn't feel good that we were asking him to do something that he still had no control upon. So I left it at that. Now since 2 weeks I've started the project and you'll not believe it has gone well without any accidents. I got him new wipes and he feels very proud about it. This morning infact i put on his diapers coz i had to go for my check-up leaving him with my parents. and he resisted a lot saying he shouldn't wear them at home:) so give her some time and then re-start again. That way both of you are not under stress. All the best! Latha |

| Yes Sunitha i also feel the same but as said jaisa des waisa bhais. As the kids go to school they have no control over pooing so they have to use papertowels .But when my daughter comes from school i ask her whethere she been to the toilet if yes clean her again with water but i have noticed that most of the time her panty is quite clean. To make her practise my hubby has got wet wipes for potty and she uses on her own. Thats how she has learned it. When i cleanher i use water when my hubby goes he tells her to use wipes. So don't worry they will learn it. But when there is no option we need to teach what is available for them instead of they not knowing what to do. Also my daughter goes at 9.00 in the morning and comes at 3.00p.m so she takes her bath when she is back so alternately her cleaning is done[ quote=sunitha;48860]While we are on this subject,I have a question. It is very silly and quite delicate at the same time that I am really not confident to ask...but it is in my mind for a long time and I really want to get it out. We (Indians) use water to clean ourselves after using the toilet whereas here, they use paper towels.I find the idea of using paper towels very filthy and I am sure many Indians feel the same.Nowadays, when training my son to clean himself,I am training him to clean with a paper towel because I believe in 'do in Rome as Romans do'.Even then, after that,I do end up washing him because I still feel he is not clean enough. I tell him that if he poops in school,he has to use a papertowel since there is no water available!! But at home, water is there so you have to wash!!Ofcourse, before leaving for school in the morning,he generally finishes all his toilet rounds and so till date he has never gone poo in school. But I know that as he ages,he might shift to the paper towel fully(if we are going to continue in the U.S) because that is what he sees in school. That is one thing which I am concerned about. What do the other moms here do?[/quote] |
