You can try getting a pack of Flash cards containing nice pictures. Also you can get some toys which makes sound of Alphabets or some rhymes or anything which would help in the little one's development.

boys generally like toys like cars,train trucks etc.you get branded toycars and trucks easily in your budget.

you can buy musical toys like xylophone,baby piano etc in good brands like fisher price. we bought one for 550 for our lo.
at the age of 1 year they generally like these pull toys with strings and ropes, animal pull toys or trucks.these are also available in fisher- price for your budget.

or else you can go for these toys like building blocks, play doughs.

you can gift a big set of rhymes cds or somethings like flash cards.

or there are bopbags( air filled life size toys of animals) from intex company ranging from 450 -500.

i have seen toy laptops for rs 500- 550 in china bazar. they are also a good buy i suppose.

or if you want to go the traditional way, you can gift some dresses or suits or just a gift coupon.

or gift vouchers from toy shops....
