| Hi Anitha, I have a 3 yr old daughter. I was worrying about the same thing when i made her join a day care when she was 2.5 yrs, they were teaching in that play school even for small babies. I always follow a book called "What to expect when you are expecting" during pregnancies and another one for my kid " what to expect in toddler years". According to my knowledge from different sources, you can start teaching swimming to your kid when he/she is 4 years old atleast. When they are very young they will not have the fear but there are chances of blood getting diluted. I dont know how far it is true. So i have seen some white kids swimming at 2.5. But i wasn't ready to send my kid. |

| Hai Balamotwani, Thanks for ur idea. can u just tell me about the book which u mentioned (what to expect in toddler years) and where can i get it? Please tell the author of that book also.

| hi anitha, If there is a baby pool then 2/3 is not a problem... but for the normal pool swimming than the age the height is the governing factor.... my children have been going to swimming classes for the past 3 years and now they have it in school.

| Anitha, 2.5 years is the right age i believe. I have seen many kids less than 2 swimming here in US. Just try now and see, if he is not comfortable you can drop the idea and if it goes good, that will be nice. Thanks Shobana.

| Here in Germany they offer swimming lessons for babies from 3 months. I'm also looking at different options. But i suppose baby swimming is more of movements in water. For children I have seen from 2.5 yrs (they have age-wise classes). I'm yet to take my boy for classes though. I think you go for some trial sessions and then decide, as Sunitha says, based on your child's interest. But they say babies are not afraid of water (as they swim in our womb) and as they grow up some may develop this fear. Latha |
