Default Significance of LORD MURUGA

Hi ILtes,
I would like to share the signifance of Lord Muruga.

In a temple we find the position of Lord shiva in the centre & those of Lord muruga & Ganesha on the left & right respectively. the temple signifies our brain.

Lord Muruga is placed on the left as he represents Knowledge ( gyana kadavul). He is potrayed as youth because knowledge is always fresh & youthful.

He is known to have 2 wives Deivanei married through arranged marriage & valli through love marriage. Knowledge comes through proper academic learning & also through experience. Deivanei represents the former & valli the later.

In valli's marriage Ganesha (right brain) helps......... While in acquiring formal knowledge a powerful mind is required, for experience a natural interest in the subject is necessary. And for this the right brain (natural tendency) makes it effective.

Hello Vidu,

Thanks for posting about Lord Muruga -- he is my favourite too ! All the Hindu gods/goddesses have symbolise such deep facts and messages for us.

Valli/Deivanai were supposedly sisters in their previous birth and worshipped Lord Muruga , desiring to attain Him as their husband. It seems Deivanai worshipped Him ardently, often foregoing food/rest etc. -- her devotion was severe and sincere. While Valli prayed only at particular times and not always. Since Deivanai was more steadfast, she reached Murugan earlier [ that is married first] than Valli did.
Knew this info. only recently while seeing Tamil movie -- Kandhan Karunai !!

hi,
Some more significance

The peacock symbolices the vibrant & colourful nature of Knowledge.
It also signifies pride as knowledge is a thing of pride. Lord Muruga also prided himself of his knowledge and arrested Brahma

His vehicle the peacock is shown stepping a snake. The snake is a symbol of tongue of the learned. It must be kept checked or words can be venomous.

Hi friends,

There is this fantastic site : Devotion to Lord Murugan one of six sections in Hinduism where you can get all the slokas, scriptures, songs, and lovely pictures too.
Though most may be knowing it, thought of sharing here for those who are not aware.

God Bless.
