Hi All We have given full name Sanjana satheesh in birth certificate. wen we tried for taking passport they rejected due to full name. they need only sanjana. pls suggest me the process of changing this.how many days it wil take?? we need to travel to US in jan. i m in trichy nw... thnx poornima
Dear Charmingpooh, I wanted to know if the birth was registered in chennai/trichy. you can always go to the district registrar who had registered the birth and ask if there can be a change made. (source : http://india.gov.in/allimpfrms/allacts/629.pdf) if not, the procedure is a little long...you need to file an affidavit, give ad in the local newspaper for chaning in the official gazette. . Once the change in name is reflected in the official gazette, old birth certificate can be corrected by providing the department with a copy of the gazette, affidavit and an application. if not possible even then, you can give a copy of the official gazette and the old birth certificate when applying for passport.

charmingpooh, As far as i know, a copy of the gazette, and old birth should suffice. since you are short on time, look out for a good lawyer, who can file in all these. (you have these people) or look out for a good travel agent (they can suggest, gazette inclusion and procedures) if you do not have any one who can help you out. this does not mean you cannot do it by yourself. all the best. do come back and post your experience so that others benefit from the same.

Hi Poornima, Could you please let me know what is the format that Passport office wanted the name to be in? This is because there are different requirements in different places 1. Schools only go by name given in Birth certificate - so if it is Anantharaman Subramanian - that is what School puts. But, if it is plain first name, school is not ready to accept it as full name and requires an affidavit. Or if in the birth certificate name is blank, schools won't accept. 2. What happens if I have Birth Certificate as Firstname Father's name in passport office. I have seen the online form where it says expand your full name which will be First name LAST NAME (or father's name in our case). Did this happen in Chennai passport office? We want to apply for our son's passport in Pune and hence if we have to get any name change done, we want to know the procedure. The discussions in this forum have really helped me a lot. I just want clarity on the passport thing. Thank you very much.
Name change in birth certificate for infant Hi I have an infant (11month).Her name is kalyani(birth certificate).Now we changed as kanishka (numerological name)through gazette.I need to fly to US by next month.Travel agencies says that if u go by gazette then u can not apply passport through tatkal. Is there any other way to apply her passport trough tatkal?
