wish to serve as volunteer for ngo

hi,
i am looking out for an ngo working for the elderly or children or physically challenged individuals and would like to serve as a volunteer. i don't know how to approach an ngo or whom to approach. kindly suggest or recommend me to some place. i am studying and would like to do this part time(evenings, weekends).

Nita, all you need to do is decide which one you will feel most comfortable in and which line you have some experience and interest in - for eg, teaching children? counselling/talking to adults? You have mentioned a broad area and there are a million NGOs in Chennai. All you need to do is call up and ask people. Google volunteering in Chennai and you will find a million more. Ability Foundation is right now holding a training session on sign language, if you are interested. I am sure your college has NCC and NSS, they should be working with some NGOs.
