Talking silk baby silk!!!

Hi all,

It has been a year since i have this noob doubt...

I had a chance to go to mysore two years back....

Just wanted to buy a saree for my mom. As u all suspect, yes i went to mysore silk factory. A goverment shop i guess..

Really i got shocked.. The starting price was 10K. I mean the entry level one. Rant

Are these mysore silks are that much costly that our kanchipuram stuff...

I managed to get one for 15K for my mom.

Any idea about these... are these worth buying!!!

dear marun,
so nice of you to buy a saree for your mother. mysore silks are costlier than kancheevaram the zari in mysore silk is weaved in pure gold( they say like that). in kanchieevaram it is silverzari coated withgold. so even a small zari in mysore silk will cost more.i bought a saree 4 yrs before for 8000/. now the price must have increased.
with love
pad.

Woow.. Thanks for clarifying pad.

The thing that conked me off was the mysore silk looked damn simple to my eyes. Didn't even knew that it is made up of real stuff.

Thanks once again!!

Mysore Silk has always been expnsive. My mother has about 3 of them, and treasures them. The price is because they are so simple to look at. Every year KSIC hosts a discount sale in chennai, where one can get upto 50 % off. So, my mom has picked there for ranging between 5K - 7K. But this was about 4 yrs back. On a recent visit to the exhibition, the starting range was at 10K - after a 50% off!
