As you people have observed it is very difficult to take the effort based on such words. Especially for people like us who have lived more than half of our lives. But if I could get across this message to clean slates, youngsters in the threshold of life, then I am confident of making a change in the world - though it may be very small.

Devathudhar kadhai made a nice reading. Inspite of being short and simple leaves a strong message about self confidence. From childhood I always loved reading such kutti kadhaigal. Good to know that now I have a chance to read the same penned by VR.

The old father not only gave a solution to the other father's problem, but invoked the confidence in the other four and made them feel good about themselves.

BTW, when you write a story with a Christianity surrounding, how come you got the right words with the Christian touch??? Like 'jebam', 'vallamai' and more. I have heard good artists mold themselves into the character they enact, but now I am seeing a writer molding himself into what he writes. I really felt like I was reading a story written by a christian writer. Wow!

Hello Malathy,

The mere fact that you found time to post in this thread amidst your busy schedule of managing a vast and varied site by itself is honour enough for me.

The current trend is nobody wants a direct advice. They want a parable, a story
to indirectly say whatever the person wanted to convey.

In this sense the world has come a full circle and is now returning to the days of Jesus, Aesop who taught by parables.

And thanks for the nice words on my writing about christianity. Though I am a staunch Hindu I love all the religions and have read their scriptures. I know Lords Prayer by heart. I have marvelled at Jesus' parables. In my book on religion (which is likely to be released this May or June) I have discussed the subtle meaning of Jesus' favourite parable The Prodigal Son.

And in the story Mannippu which came in Vikatan in 1999 and got the Tamilnadu Govt Award for promoting religious harmony I had dealt with confession, especially when it is administered to a dying man. In that story a Christian Father will hear the confession of a dying Hindu and let him die in peace.

And finally the writer gets identified with what he writes. That is the major reason that every story retains its original character.
