Malspie,
Thanks for your valuable suggestions time and again. It has enriched IL and helped in encouraging participation of IL'ites.
Regarding this suggestion you have made, I have a basic question here...
On what basis do we categorize renowned writers and budding writers?
Because a budding writer in IL might be a renowned writer elsewhere (might have been writing for years together in some other blog / forum sites, would have got their writings published in magazines, newspapers, etc. for years now). They would have recently stepped into IL having come to know about this community and the readership here.
Like, for example, Ojaantrik - is a relatively recent member here compared to the members whom you have mentioned above. But he is NOT a budding writer. He is a renowned writer who has owned his blogs of writings, who had been writing to several blogs, but now wants to share all of his writings with IL readership.
Similarly, renowned or coveted prize winning writers here in IL might still be a budding writer as far as their overall experience in writing (outside of IL) is considered.
So it might not be easy to categorize budding writers and renowned writers. Also, we would hate to get into issues like hurting someone's feeling calling them a budding writer (while they may have years of experience writing inside/outside IL).
Moreover, once we categorize someone a budding writer, how do we define when they become a renowned writer? After they give a particular number of their contributions (or) after they get to win a certain number of nominations, contests or prizes? It may be too complicated to track all this info.
REQUEST TO MEMBERS WITH WRITING PASSION
Let me take this opportunity to "request" those members with writing passion, who regularly have been contributing their writings here, to consider taking a personal
blogspace in IL and start contributing their writings there. Let the forum remain for those one-off writers wanting to share their piece of writing.
You have many folds of advantages in contributing your writings as blogs:
1. All your writings will be as collections in a single location - your personal blogspace.
2. The readership following your writings can easily find all of your writings at one place.
3. Your writings will not get mixed up or missed amongst the other writings.
4. There is also
FINEST BLOG CONTEST (similar to FINEST POST) conducted for the blogs.
REQUEST TO ALL MEMBERS:
In fact, let me take this opportunity to
clarify something about
Finest Post Contest to all members.
Finest Post contest was NOT intended ONLY to encourage those members with writing skills.
The pure intent of the
Finest Post Contest was to encourage those members making
QUALITY POSTS.
By
QUALITY POST what we mean is, it could be a good advise / suggestion to someone in need of help in real-life, a complete answer to a co-members question based on one's experience, a post that turns out to be giving great guidance, sharing information, making friendship, reaching out help, etc. It could also be a great piece of writing - fiction, non-fiction, poem, song, etc.
Fortunately we ended up getting & growing lots of skilled writers here, attracted by great readership and lovely feedback received here in this community. That eventually Finest Posts Contest turned out to be like a writers contest, which is NOT completely true.
So hereby, I request all members to read about
Finest Post Contest and nominate QUALITY POSTS that they think are the best and have been useful and informative to them. It need NOT be a post exhibiting someone's writing skills alone.
Malathy
